Title: Duck pond
Post by Jerry on Jul 20th, 2008 at 12:07pm
Yesterday my wife and I went to the fairgrounds to eat our lunch and the perfect place to do that was the little duck pond which has a nice shaded sheltered picnic table close to the water.

There were mostly gulls in the area but there were ducks and some of them came close to us hoping we would throw them some food.

Here are a few pictres I thought I would share :)

Thank you ;)

I am amazed how the colors come out with our newest digital camera, especially the green colors 8-)

BTW, our digital camera is a Canon Powershot A570is and I know it is not the best and most expensive camera out there but it pretty much does everything I want in a digital camera.

Thanks for sharing the beautiful pics, Jerry!  I have a Canon PowerShot SD 5600 and I love it.  Not the most expensive either, but I love what it does!

Wowy, you have beautiful fairgrounds! I wish the ones here looked like that!

Right now they are building a brand new grandstand for the fair/rodeo which will be nice and they have also put a lot of work and money into making it a pretty nice area.

The bad thing is that the new grandstand sits where the horse racing track was which upset a lot of the horse lovers here and as far as I know they are not going to have horse racing in the near future.

The fairgrounds here, is trying to get an arena that we could have concerts and all sorts of indoor events in, but they have been unsuccesful thus far. They are building new bathrooms that look awsome! There will be a line come fair time cause they are the nicest ones ;D. It upsets me though because the fairgrounds rents out buildings, to help pay for improvements, for events. However, during those events the people take it upon themselves to knock windows, and walls out of the new bathrooms :(. They charge a deposit,  but I doubt the money covers it all. We even had a mural painted on the side of a building by a local artist that took 2-3 years to complete, and they spray painted it. >:(

I see ducks and geese all the time in the many nearby drainage ponds and creeks but I sure liked seeing that mountain background. Way cool.

That is Mt. Helena which is our largest city park which is used by many hikers and bikers 8-)

I have not seen any but I have heard there are Mountain Lions (AKA Cougars) in the area but they generally stay away from humans.

I have hiked around the limestone cliffs you can see and once you get to the very top the view is awesome.

The next time I am up there I will take pictures and post them.

Barb and I took a hike up Mount Helena and while we were at the top I took pictures and this is one looking down at the duck pond we were at in the other pictures.
