Title: September 2008 Post by Sakina on Sep 1st, 2008 at 4:03pm
Well, in all my years here at LongLocks, I've never started one of these threads here under Measure Up!
So, here we go, entering the month where fall begins (September 22nd is the autumnal equinox). Today my length is...23.5" I had a trim in August, so now I'm back to where I was. |

Congrats on starting your first Measure Up, Sakina. ;) And thanx for the little fall reminder. I'm totally psyched for it!
Sadly, my hair isn't very psyched. It's just barely over the 26" mark, so I'm just gonna throw my hands up and call it 26¼". :-/ |
Title: Re: September 2008 Post by Drear on Sep 2nd, 2008 at 3:02am
I've lost my measuring tape that had inches on it and over here all measuring tapes have centimeters on it. So I did an online conversion and I hope the online converter is correct.
42cm=16,5". I think I was at 15,3/4" last month. So the growth pattern still holds. About 3/4" a month. I don't know if it's just a summer pattern though. I only began to measure my hair in Spring so I'm still learning about my hair's growth rate. |

Omygosh!
I'm at 27 and about 7/8. Almost an inch in a month!! I didn't expect that! ;D Yay, proof that it is growing, I was gettong nervous and suspecting it would be the same length forever. |
Title: Re: September 2008 Post by Tanai on Sep 3rd, 2008 at 10:40am
;D I love fall! So this will be a double measurement, pre and post trim. I'm pleased to report that my hair has decided to start growing again. ;D And is back to growing 1in. a month. So pre trim measurement is 27"! Post trim measurement is 26".

An inch a month? WOW ;D
I am measuring mid-month so nothing 4 now |

21" here :)
When hubby measured this morning he said, "Looks like you're still at 21 inches." --As if he remembered me being at that length last month. At first I was disappointed but when I retrieved my hair measurement log, I saw that my hair had grown half an inch. |
Title: Re: September 2008 Post by Skyfire on Sep 4th, 2008 at 10:32am
Okay. 22.5 inches this morning. 1/4 inch since last measurement, 10 days ago. I'm still getting a big trim this month, though, and I'll measure again right after. Then I'll only measure once a month.
I've been thinking about this. I was at about 14 inches the last time my hair was cut, way back in may of 07. That's roughly 8.5 inches of growth in 15 months. That's about 1/2 inch a month, a little bit more, so if I cut my hair back to 20 in, say in the middle of this month, and trim 1/2 in every 3 months, I should hit my initial goal of 24 inches in about a year. |

Hi!
Although Skyfire already clarified with me that you are not supposed to measure your hair from the side of your head, but from the middle of the forehead, I have heard of people measuring from their hairline? :-? Right now my hair is 14 and a half inches from my hairline, but 15 and a half inches from the middle of my forehaed. What one is it? *crosses her fingers* pleeeeeeeease be from the middle of the forhead :-/ lol |
Title: Re: September 2008 Post by Skyfire on Sep 4th, 2008 at 6:05pm
Sorry. I meant your hairline, but in the center of it, on the forehead side.
I was trying to be specific, because the hairline goes all the way around, and well...I have a great curve of hairline at my forehead. I guess just above my forehead, really, huh... anyway, draw a line straight up from the bridge of yr nose until you hit yr hairline, and that's where you start measuring. Over the top of yr head and down to the longest part of your hair. I like measuring this way, because if you think about it, it's really the longest measurement that's just hair. None of my specific hairs are actually so long. At least, I dont' think so. |

I am soooo excited!!! Only 1 month to go then I can measure again. This experiment will be over and I am considering starting another. Measuring will probably be included in that one.

3 inches this month. I'm surprised that my hair grew that fast. :o
|
Title: Re: September 2008 Post by Jilayne75 on Sep 7th, 2008 at 4:27pm
What? :-? I dont understand. Did your hair grow three inches in one month or is it three inches long? Cuz that would really be something if it grew 3 inches in a month.

no its 3 inches it grew one inch this month. I trimmed it to 1 inch in mid july, but since then it grew two inches. I wish it grew three inches in a month. ;D |

Title: Re: September 2008 Post by callisto on Sep 9th, 2008 at 5:33pm
I'm at 27 3/4!! I'm happy... But it's quite odd because I did an over-night conditioning and somehow that made my hair not quite as curly as it sometimes is-- I guess when it is dehydrated it becomes rougher and curlier. But it's definitely getting longer!

Title: Stuck at 28 inches Post by moew27 on Sep 10th, 2008 at 2:55pm
My hair growth has been slowing down. :-?
Now it seems to have stopped. :'( So, NOW what do I do???? :-/

That is wonderful! you have come so far in such a short period of time. I am so happy FOR you. :D I just love your hair! (I have always wanted curly hair.) Question: Do you pull your hair straight so you get the full length of the hair when you measure? or do you measure it wet? Your hair is so curly I would have no idea how to measure it. My hair is so poker straight I do not have that problem. |

Hmm... Pray to hair gods.... -gotta look up who the hair gods might be... -I will have to think about the color candles to use. -Herbs? calendula and chamomile I think would be good for me. Maybe a touch of lemon. -Definitely during the Waxing Moon. Yes.... this might work. Good idea. I will let you know how it works. ;) ;D |

Your hair has gotten so long. I remember when you were saying you thought it would never grow. I am very happy for you. :D |
Title: Re: September 2008 Post by callisto on Sep 10th, 2008 at 7:50pm
I measure my hair when it is dry. Sometimes I pull a strand out to it's full length and measure that too, but the 27 3/4 measurement is dry. Wet is... give me a sec to find a measuring tape... wet is at 32" (ie that would be how long my hair is if it were straightened).

Title: Re: September 2008 Post by callisto on Sep 11th, 2008 at 10:14am
thanks ;D
i have a head start on a lot of people because I have been ignoring my hair for two years and letting it do it's own thing. the only problem is that it took two years for it to go (curly) from above shoulder length to lower-midback, while it took two years to go (if it were straight) from shoulder length to tailbone. when i got it cut (back from hip) my only command to the hair dresser was that (wet) i would still be able to put it in a ponytail. i think i went insane for a while there.... |
Title: Re: September 2008 Post by waiting4longlocks on Sep 18th, 2008 at 12:56pm
I've been measuring mid-month so here it is: 23.5 in
.......... :-? NO GROWTH! Well at least for my longest layer. I have a feeling that other layers of my hair have been growing this month. I hope. :-/ |
Title: Re: September 2008 Post by brunette85 on Sep 19th, 2008 at 7:31pm
I forgot to measure in this month. Oops! Well this month I am around 24.5" So I suppose I am getting a half inch of growth each month :)

This is so unfair.
I'm at 15 inches barely.I haven't cut my hair at all and haven't changed shampoos. My hair has been changing texture though. It's getting curlier and less frizzy more and more.I stopped using the vinegar wash because my hair was getting greasy the next day.I don't understand how my hair could go from being 15 1/2 to 15.My mom measured in the back and she said it was 12!i was like "WHAT?!"apparently there's a diffrence in the front measure to the back measure. where does everyone else normally measure? |
Title: Re: September 2008 Post by Jilayne75 on Sep 25th, 2008 at 9:14pm
Foreverfay,
If you're measuring the same way I am, then we are almost the same length. I'm not sure you are though. Typically, everyone measures from the hairline over top of the head to the end of the hair. (I had alot of trouble with this, too. For the longest time I thought you were supposed to measure from the side or back of the head starting at the hairline) This is why for most people BSL is 25" and waist length is about 30". Hope that helped :). -Jilayne |
Title: Re: September 2008 Post by Drear on Sep 26th, 2008 at 4:57am
Had a trim today. My hair was 17" this morning (16,5" at the beginning of the month) , now I'm back to 16 1/4". I'm okay, it really is okay. :'( I hate maintenance trims. ::)

Thanks!Yeah For me BSL is about 26 1-2 inches(I have a terribly long torso dangit plus I'm 5'8 almost 5'9 and still growing so....it may take me longer than most people)And I still have like 10 inches to make grow.So like 8 years and I'll be where I want to be.haha.ugh.It's such a painful process.I think I may experiement with leaving my hair up for an entire month.Like the entire month.Only take it down at nighttime when I sleep.Sounds like a fun project. Good luck and thanks Jilayne(p.s that's a beautiful name) :) ~Ace |
Title: Re: September 2008 Post by ollie on Sep 29th, 2008 at 1:58am
well Im confused. I measured my hair on the 23 rd of sep. and I thought you were supposed to measure from your ear to the end of your hair tips. So I will have to do this again.
I am going to do this tomorrow so that will be on the 28th of sep. which will be my first measurement , then i will every month on that day measure and give my status. Also How do you determine the length of hair growth ? Im 29 years old with hair aready past my lower back. thanks all |
Title: Re: September 2008 Post by Jilayne75 on Sep 29th, 2008 at 10:19pm
Thank you, Foreverfay for the compliment, that was very nice of you to say. :)
ollie: I'm not really sure what you mean by your question. :-? If you want to the length of hair growth just measure once every couple of months and then subtract your original length. I'm not sure if this is the answer you wanted though. You'll have to clarify. :-[ -Jilayne |
Title: Re: September 2008 Post by Curlgirl64 on Sep 30th, 2008 at 12:10pm
Ollie, just an fyi, it might be easier for you to measure by taking a dressmaker's tape measure and start at the top of your forehead at the hairline, take the tape measure over the top of your head and let it hang down over your back, and where the longest hair is; is the length or your hair. Hope this helps!
As for me, I got a much needed trim or cut today! Before the cut I was at 36 1/2 inches and after the cut I am at 32 1/2 inches. All is even now and I guess I'm still in shock at the measurement, but I'll measure again when it's wet and then I'll know for sure. I think Thurs. is when I will do my henna and indigo. |
