Title: My favorite hairstyle
Post by leia on Feb 2nd, 2003 at 11:38am
I have looked on hundreds of hairstyle sites, but have never ONCE found this hairstyle anywhere! I am so shocked, because this is my absolute *favorite* hairstyle, so easy to do, and it always works even on the worst hair days! My friend taught me this a little over a year ago, and once you master it, you will love it! It works on formal occasions, work places where you have to have your hair tied up, times when you don't have enough time to do your hair, or just when you want your hair swept away from your face!

Here's my secret!!! My friend called it The French Twist, and it required just one hairstick. Twist your hair as you would when you make a normal bun, and I like to leave a little bit sticking up from the top because it's kind of funky  :P. Then take the hairstick and push it UP through the BOTTOM of the bun and then DOWN again through the TOP of the bun. I don't know if these instructions are easy to follow or not! But I really hope you try it, because you will be so grateful when you master it! Oh and a word of caution - don't tug the bun too tight or the hairstick will never go through, and if it does it will rip at your head *shudder*. You have to be able to wrap it medium tight; too loose will cause it too fall off and too tight will cause unpleasant results!

;D Let me know what you think!

I'm not sure I am following your instructions.. ??? ...When you say to go up from the bottom then down from the top, are you essentially flipping the bun over?  Do you have a picture of this style?  It sounds interesting.

Yes you are pretty much flipping the bun over. I could get a picture of me with that style, but I don't have FTP space or a website to put it on so I don't know how I'll upload it onto this site  :'(. Once I find this space or a site I will do my best to get it onto here!

I had the same problems when I wanted to post pics of my hair. I got a free homepage from http://www.beepworld.de
The only problem is the explanations are done in German  :-/

I have used Picturetrail, which is free, for posting pictures.  The instructions are in English and are quite easy to follow.  The main site is www.picturetrail.com

My site is http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?uid=771714

good luck!

Ooh thanks, I'll try and get my pic posted there either later tonight or sometime tomorrow (I have to find a time when I have no homework and when my mother is free to take a pic!). I hope it will be clear enough, anyway let's hope for good luck in getting that picture lol!

Hm...did you put the WHOLE url shown when you opened the pic (because your hp isnīt ready and only the index is shown?). This is very long. In my case it does work.

You could just post the URL and we could connect to it (as I did in my previous post).  Keep trying, we would love to see the picture!

The picture was a bit dark, but I think I can make out the hair style.  I'll have to try it myself.  Thanks for sharing.

I have found another style which I really like. You begin at the crown of your head and make a basic french braid, but when you have picked up hair from above your ears, just braid your hair as normal without picking up more hair. You can add a couple of twists or accent braids around it as well.

I am not sure how clear this picture is, but if you want, I've posted a pic of my hair in this style on this page: http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=1659754&uid=907601&members=1. Sorry but my hair isn't very long at the moment  :'(.

It's a funny coincidence apparently that people are talking about a hairstyle called "The French Twist."

I subscribe to a hairstyle website that sends out notices when they post new styles and they just posted pictures and instructions for a style they call "The Twisted Loop" too!

I think it's similar to what you're talking about:

 ;D

My picturetrail account got deleted - they said I needed to pay - so no picture of my prom last Friday night! Oh, well... I ended up doing a French Twist (like the one I mentioned here) but I put two curly scrunchies on top so it looked like I had a kind of curly bun. It looked great!

Thank you... I've always wanted straight hair though. I mean it always seems to look cleaner, if you know what I mean. Wavy hair always just looks a bit dirty  :-/

Thank you! I made those posts over a year ago when I wasn't too pleased with my hair. But thankfully, it has grown out nicely and I'm very proud of it now.  ;D

I always loved French Twist or variants of same since I was a kid.

My family doctor had a photo of his gorgeous wife on the wall of his office.  She looked like Grace Kelly, in a strapless dress and a gorgeous French twist.

I said "when I get older, that's what I am gonna do, I'm not gonna have one of those old lady, teased bobs" no matter what.
