Title: Sun Protection
Post by MAZ on Apr 16th, 2003 at 12:27pm
Has anyone got any good tips for protecting your hair in the sun?  Apart from wearing a hat (which I hate) I am not sure what to put on it to protect it.

Thanks.

Look for shampoos and/or conditioners that provide UV protection.  This is most often found in products for color treated hair, as it helps to prevent color fade.

Scarves tied around your head are also a fun way to protect your hair. I also tend to tie my hair up in the sun to make sure my ends don't split and also I don't use any products such as gel, because the sun intensifies it and makes my hair drier. If you are still worried, use deep conditioner when you come home.

I usually wear my hair in braids when I am outside (and biking).  I have used aloe vera gel to hold the little ends into the braids as well as provide some sun protection.

Thanks, I normally put my hair in braids if I am going on the beach.  I will try putting aloe vera gel or leave in conditioner with UV protection.

Up to now I've just let my hair 'get on with it' but having had it damaged so much in the past and having to cut off about 8" I am now determined to take better care of it so I can grow it longer than BSL.
