Title: Cobra Braids
Post by leia on Feb 14th, 2003 at 4:23am
I've seen a few pictures of cobra braids and they are gorgeous. I was wondering if anyone has tried it on themselves and knows how to do them?

Go to the main www.dreamweaverbraiding.com website and click others. The first two braids there are cobra braids.

I know they're wonderful aren't they! I have done a search for instructions but I can't find anything.

Here's my guess at this - it looks (from those pictures) like the hair is split into 3 sections.  first make a part from ear to ear across the top of the head - the lower part gets barided (french or dutch) from the bottom up, then split the top part of the hair from the center of the head into left and right parts - these get braided (french or dutch) from front to back (to where you've finished gathering hair for the other braid).  Then entwine and pin the 3 braids into the formation desired - it looks like the two from either side of the head wind around the one from the center back to create the cobra like effect...hope that helps!

That sounds about right - you must be an expert  ;)! I have no one to try it on though, and my hands get too tired when trying it on myself. *sigh* I wish someone I knew had long hair!!

Not all braiders have long hair!  Ask your friends, you may find one that would be delighted to braid your hair.

Wow!  I just check out that cobra braid - IN-CREDIBLE- can't even fathom a successful attempt at that!  There's some really beautiful styles pictured there, I especially like the Victorian with two twisted strands, that would really suit my style, but I'm not really sure what they did there and I don't see any instructions.  If anyone knows how to do that, please share!  I'd love to figure it out!
