Has anyone taken the supplement "Hair Formula 37"? I heard it guarantees  hair to grow faster than normal. Before I spend my hard earned money, I thought I would ask if  this actually works ??? Does any supplement work to speed up the growth of hair?

I took HF 37 for a few months about 2 years ago and it did work well for me.My hair wasn´t growing faster,definately not,but was in a better overall condition with less shedding and breakage. :D(Unfortunately I could not continue using it, for the German customs has become very strict on importing supplements from the US,so I cannot order them online anymore).At the moment I am taking a hair supplement from Hollandandbarrett(UK) which is quite good,and-most important to me-I take about 1000 mg MSM per day,and I couldn´t do without it!Without MSM I have a fallout rate of 20-30 hairs a day,with MSM maybe 2-3 per day.I think without MSM I would have see-through hair by now! ???

I have not taken HF-37 but I have seen that others who have taken it have said both that it worked and did not work.  It will probably depend on your body's needs.  I also take MSM (although the original intent was for my joints, helping my hair was a nice bonus!).  I also take Biotin and Silica to reduce hair fallout and have seen nice results.  Do you take any other supplements at this time?

What exactly is MSM?

MSM = Methylsulfonylmethane = is a naturally occurring sulfur compound found within our bodies. It is a safe and natural, assimilable food derived from the ocean.  MSM is neither a medicine, drug, chemical, herb, stimulant, synthetic food or additive. It is a member of the sulfur family but should never be confused with sulfa drugs, to which some people are allergic. It is completely safe, odorless, and non-toxic.  A 160 pound man has approximately 4 pounds of sulfur as body weight.  MSM is a natural organic compound.  It occurs naturally in the foods we eat but disappears when we process our food.

Does it come in the form of a tablet?

MSM is usually a tablet type pill.  It is a common supplement for treating arthritis or joint disorders.  Health food, vitamin or drug stores typically carry it.

I take a long, boring list of supplements.. multivitamin/omega-3 fish oil/ flaxseed oil/ vit.C,B complex.   I noticed my hair is shiner because of the oil supplements that I've  been taking for years. I have never heard of biotin. silica, and MSM, though, I'll have to research those supplements. ::)Thanks again!

Biotin is a water-soluble member of the B-complex group of vitamins and is commonly referred to as vitamin H.  Biotin is necessary for both metabolism and growth in humans, particularly with reference to production of fatty acids, antibodies, digestive enzymes, and in niacin (vitamin B-3) metabolism. Food sources for biotin are liver, kidney, soy flour, egg yolk, cereal, and yeast. There are suggestions that biotin is also capable of curing baldness, alleviating muscle pain and depression, and functions as a cure for dermatitis. Biotin deficiency results in fatigue, depression, nausea, muscle pains, hair loss, and anemia.

silica  promotes the re-growth, strength, and elasticity of connective tissues. Silica is a trace element (only present in the body in small amounts) but is necessary for healthy bones, cartilage, skin, hair and connective tissues.  

Does anyone know how long it takes to notice a difference in your hair strength, growth after you begin taking MSM?   Should 1000 mg be enough a day to see results? Just wondering.

For me it takes about 3 weeks or so until MSM starts working-a really dramatic decrease in shedding.But I honestly can´t say that my hair is growing faster or getting thicker.Though with less shedding,there seems to be more hair ;)

I noticed less shedding after about 2 weeks.  I have not noticed an increased growth rate, but reducing the shedding was my primary objective.  (And, as I said before, the MSM I actually take for my arthritic joints).

Bikerbraid,  How much silica and biotin do you take?  Are there any side effects with any of these or with MSM?  

I take 1000mg MSM, 1000mg Horsetail Extract ( 70mg Silica), 10 mg Biotin.  All of them I get from the Vitamin Shoppe (www.vitaminshoppe.com).
