Title: Varied colors of blonde
Post by bikerbraid on May 7th, 2003 at 11:34am
I have dark blonde hair at the roots (ignoring the grey   8) ).  My ends are light blonde primarily do to sun exposure.  I spend a lot of time outdoors in the summer and my hair always lightens as a result.  I try to wear hats and scarves, but they either don't stay on or are hot.  My hair is in good condition with very few split ends.  Should I be concerned with the significant color difference?  I kind of like it myself - I like all the different colors and even the contrast of my light colored bun against the darker scalp hair, but I'm not sure what others think.

The ends of my hair are much redder than the color at the top.  I wouldn't do anything about it myself.

If it really bothers you, you could have your hair reverse streaked, which would add some darker streaks to the ends while really not changing the top too much.  You could do it with a non permanent color yourself to see how it would look, before committing to the permanent method.  While the permanent option would mean using peroxide, at least it would only be on some sections of hair and wouldn't require the constant touch up (and abuse) that dyeing it would.

mine is like that too, bikerbraid.  I love my golden bun, and i get so many comments on it  ;D

Welcome!  Yes, it is fun to have that golden bun set on slightly darker hair on the head.  However, I have been asked if it was a hairpiece more than once.  One person was so rude as to comment that my bun was "probably a bad hairpiece - look how it doesn't match her hair".  I turned and glared at her - hopefully she got the message.  ;D

I also have darker roots, than my very light natural blonde hair, but what I like the best is the even lighter blond streaks that can be seen when my hair is worn down. :)

The bain and glory of every blonde is the varied colors their hair shows.

By the way, welcome Jody!  :)

I was told every woman shoulb be blonde for one time in her life. Don´t know how I could reach that goal with my reddish brown hair on waistlength- don´t think I want to bleach  ;D ;)

Thank you for the warm welcome!! ;D

I have always hair very light blonde hair, until I had my son, then it turned darker, then lighten up after I had him.  Hormones, got to love em'.

Also, I have been told I should cut my long hair because I have a child, but if I wear it up, ;) I see no problems with having the long hair.

My hair was MUCH lighter before my son was born.  It seems to get darker every year.  It is still prone to sun-bleaching, but I have finally realized how damaging that is and I am covering and protecting my hair more in the summer to prevent sum of the lightening effects.

I cut my hair before my son was born because I was tired of its length.  I waited until I was 45 before growing it out again.  If I knew then what I know now about how to care for and style long hair, I don't think I would have cut it.  Don't let others make decisions for you.  If you want to keep your hair long, then do so.  Your age has nothing to do with how you should wear your hair.

my natural medium blonde hair is also lighter on the ends and somewhat lighter on my left side. probably from sun exposure from driving. doesn't bother me one bit

I also have blonde hair.  Right now it's a bit hightlighted and is growing in my normal med-blonde color.

It used to be lighter until I had kids and then it got a bit darker.  I miss my light blonde hair and want to get some of the lighter blonde back, but I amd not sure I want to go through the damage the occurs when you highlight.

I think that is the nature of blonde hair that is is many varying shades of blonde.  I have a couple of kids that are real blondies, one (DS) is starting to go dark. The other (DD) is still REALLY light.  Love her hair.

Both my dad and my uncle, who were fullblood Finns, were born with and had *white* blond hair all through childhood.  Both died in their 70's with almost black hair and no gray.

I had "white" blonde as a child.  Every year it gets darker and darker :P

Now that the grey is coming in, it "appears" to be getting lighter again.

I had light golden hair as a child, my grandma likes to reminisce about how when she put her hand in my hair her wedding ring would disappear.  :)

As a teenager I went quite red, but it was always the individual hairs that were red, while others were gold, brown and everything in between.

Now the red's faded to a coppery-goldy blonde, light brown in the winter. I'm happy!

Just like Biker braid I had white blonde hair as a child. Now its more of a mix between blonde and brown. But people still refer to me as a blond. So its not brown enough.

My both parents have dark hair- my father's hair is brown and my mother's was brownish black before she started graying.

It's strange...I and my cousin are the only blondes in the family. When I was a child, everyone kept telling me that my hair will turn brown when I grow up. Now I grow only in horizontal dimension and my hair is still blonde, so I guess I can safely assume that it will remain so until grays appear.  ;D

When I was born my hair was so light it looked almost clear.
Then it turned a bright dark auburn.  After a few months it became light blond and has been darkening after puberty.  Hormones strike again!
I now color my hair red, with a big, bold blond highlight in the front.

If you really look at any blonde there is a big variety of different colors of hair strands, so I think you fit right in with all the rest of us blondes.  I have everything from white, to every shade of blonde and  even some red in my hair.

I don't even try to think, what my exact haircolor is. When I look in the mirror inside, it looks golden blonde with a couple of light streaks. But in pictures it has sometimes ash tones, yellow and sometimes even a hint of strawberry. I think I'll switch my color type to simply "moody blonde".

I love the different colours you blondes have. My sister is now a blonde but was brunette as a child and it has lightened over the years in the sun (she lives in America now but is English by birth) so it  a bit darker underneath. I think it looks very attractive. Loads of brunette girls over here seem to die their hair blonde on top and still keep the dark underneath. I really like it and would love to do that myself but I don't think it would have quite the same effect on a redhead and it would be too permanent for me to experiment I'm sure.

Jules,

I think blonde on top and red underneath would look stunning!  But I agree with you...your hair is too pretty RED to take the risk now.  I once saw a young woman with blonde on top, red on the sides, and brown underneath...extremely beautiful look!  I love the look of different shades...my hair is much darker underneath now at my neck.

Varied colors of blonde are beautiful. The sun lightens the outer layer of my hair while the under layers remain darker honey color. A braid looks beautiful with the varied shades. Hair one solid color does not have the depth I like.

WOW. Your hair is so beautiful. It is so long too. You must have really worked hard to keep it in such fantastic condition, and what a beautiful colour.

Jules.

You are so right!  In any color of hair, you need shades to give it depth.  That's why colored hair can look so "fakey" - it has only one shade and is flat.

I totally agree.

Your hair is amazing!  I'm sure you are, too!!  With hair so beautiful, JJJLH, do you ever feel neglected as other Oooh and Ahhh over your hair?

Happy 2007, all.......

I just joined and this is the first post for me!

I have never seen a thread like this one.....one I actually fit into.   ;D

My hair was golden blonde for my childhood, then darkened.  Now it it sort of a honey blonde or perhaps light brown.

In photos it looks quite red.  I like it both ways.

It is 18 inches long now.....I began growing it out about a year and a half ago.

Hoping to learn lots and lots from all of you.   ;)

Interesting, Sky.  My hair also tends to look red in photos.  Ones taken outdorrs in natural light, anyway.  There is no red in my hair, I don't think.  It was very light when I was little, but darkened many years ago to this dark golden blond I have now.  I don't think it is ashy at all.

Yeah, it's odd about how the red shows up!

I told DH I should just live my life through the lens of our digital camera, and I'd BE a redhead.   ;D

I too have lighter ends due to the sun, my top is more a dark blond/golden brown colour looks great in a bun. i was a strawberry blond as a baby which went to a golden blond as a child, my eldest daughter was a white blond as a child and is still a very light blond (natural) at the age of 20 here eyebrows are still white though, yet my youngest is quite dark
