Hi Leia,

Ramadan is near- would you like to tell us what is special at this month in Bangladesh? Maybe there is everything like ever? I´d love to lern something new :-*

Hi there!

The month of Ramadan is a when people fast from before the sun rises to the time that the sun sets. It is a Muslim fast and truly tests will power, as you are not allowed to eat or drink anything all day.

I thought that water and tea were allowed during the fast. Or is that just the "western" adaptation?

I knew what Ramadan is but hoped you could tell me something new ;)
Bikerbraid, this is maybe the western adaption. In Ramadan you are not allowed to eat, drink, smoke or doing something else that could break it between dawn to dusk. Children, old, sick, pregnant, breastfeeding and travelling people have not to fast.

It must be western adaptation. In addition to all that E mentioned, you are also not allowed to lose your temper during this time. It is a true test of will power :).

I understand that sex is not allowed during daylight hours either. I guess that would be consistent with self-denial during Ramadan.

Bikerbraid, you are probably right, though I have never heard of this. I myself am not Muslim, but living here I have seen and learned the traditions of Ramadan (called Ramzan here).

I just thought I'd post here to let you know... tomorrow was supposed to be the first day of Ramzan, but the moon was not visible so it is going to officially start on Tuesday.

??? It´s such a mess ;D Monday was supposed to be the first day of Ramadan. In Germany they saw the new moon on saturday evening so they began to fast on sunday. In Switzerland the german part fasts since sunday, the french part since today (monday) ??? And Bangladesh fasts since tomorrow ;D
Quite good the christians have the solar calendar ;)

Yes I am :) But I usually do not fast before easter.
