Title: December 2003 Measurement
Post by bikerbraid on Dec 1st, 2003 at 2:22pm
Surprise!  It's December already!  Along with your measurement for this month, why not include how you might wear your hair for those holiday events you might be attending!

I have only one party we usually attend and plan to wear my hair half up with a braided bun and a cute holiday hairstick.  The loose hair will be in soft waves (for as long as they last).

That sounds nice, have to give it a try,too :)   Unfortunately there are a lot of very formal events coming up for me,I think IŽll wear my hair all up for those,a braided bun with a special hairstick perhaps. For Christmas with my family IŽd like a knotted ponytail fastened with a hairstick or the `sausage-link Žponytail with lots of scrunchies  (still one of my favourites) :D
As for my December measurement:42 inches after a small trim

I didnŽt measure yet and I have no idea how I could wear my hair for the holidays. Maybe my beloved bun? Sounds boring ;)

28.2", that's 0.2" growth... :'(

For special events I leave my hair down because most of the time it's in a bun, and sometimes I do half up styles for holidays too  ;D

Hi everyone. My hair has grown one inch, so its presently 12.5 inches. But I need a trim. It seems like whenever I have growth I need a trim. Any advice people.
I heard this silly thing about getting your hair cut on a new moon promotes growth. Has anyone ever heard about this, if so please tell me your thoughts. Well on the 23rd of this month, I'm going to try it

I never tried it but it absolutely seems to work for some people. Try it and youŽll see :)

Hi Princesa-Pia, it's not "silly" at all. It works perfectly for me. But I don't think hair can grow much more than 1" per month. There is also another lunar chart that people use to get their hair to grow faster (found at http://www.morroccomethod.com/lunar.html) which I haven't tried yet. The day for length for this month is December 19th so I will be trimming then to see if this works for me.

hey leia, thanks for the website. I checked other sites about hair growth and moon phases, but many have different dates to cut one's hair. I don't know which I am going to follow, but I think I'll try what you suggested.
Also could you (and anyone else) give me some advice on how to avoid split ends. Its seems every time I have growth, I need to cut at least an inch off. I am getting no where, with my long hair goal.

Princess-pia;
Are you trimming just the split ends, or the whole length of your hair?  I would recommend that you "dust" your hair.  This method will trim only the splits off and leave your length.  Be sure to use a very sharp scissors so that you don't damage the hair even more.

I have found that putting my hair into two twisted ropes or 2 braids makes it very easy to find the split ends and trim them off.

Thanks Bikerbraid. All I need now is the sharp scissors. How often do you clip your split ends? Also when you suggested "dust", you mean putting baby power or something similar to my ends. That I never tried. I usually go to my stylist at least every other month to get a trim, he cuts off an inch everytime  :-[.

Dusting is the trimming of just the split ends.  It is probably called that because when you are done, there is just a "dusting" of hair on the floor (table, chair, clothes, whatever).

How I dust, is to put my hair in twin braids or twin twisted ropes.  The little ends that stick out I look at very carefully under a strong light.  If the end appears to be split or have a little white "bump" on it, I use my sharp scizzors (actually and embroidery scizzors) to clip the hair just above the split.  I have not had my hair trimmed since April, although I am thinking I might do a 1/2" trim after the holidays.

Trimming the hair would only remove the split ends that are on the ends of your longest hairs, it does nothing for shorter hairs.  That is why the dusting method is actually better for handling split ends.

You might also try to determine what might be causing the split ends.  Is your hair coated with silicone type products that are robbing your hair of moisture?  Do you wash too often?  Do you comb/brush your hair when it is wet and vulnerable?  Is your comb too rough on your hair?  Any of these might be causing the split ends.

Hope this helps a bit.

Is it possible to have fine, but very strong, hair?  I haven't cut my hair for about 5/6 months, and I don't have one split end!  (or at least, not that I can see, at any rate.)

Yes, I think it is possible and would be an indication of healthy, well cared for hair.

I have very fine hair, but seldom find any split ends.  Fallout is a whole different issue, however!  :D

Hi!  Yes, I think it's quite possible.   8) I have fine, thick hair and I haven't had a trim in at least a year or so.  I can't find any split ends at all.  I'm very careful with my hair, though, I don't use a hairdryer or curling iron.  I only use Chamomile tea from time to time to lighten it a little.  I usually only use intensive conditioners (like Paul Mitchell's super-charged moisturizer) and leave some on the ends, since I have curly hair.

I got tired of hair stylists insisting I needed to whack off my hair every time I saw them!   >:(  It's a conspiracy!

Average guess of 14" today!  Yay! ::)

Thanks Eowyn, that's how I feel! lol  I tend to blowdry my hair, but I often leave the ends still wet, and let them dry naturally...I suppose that might help.
