Title: Help - Hair loss and getting married in 5½ months!
Post by sammy1970 on Mar 27th, 2004 at 11:10am
:o

Hi

I'm new and looking for some advice.  My hair has been falling out for the last six months to the extent that both my hairdresser and Doc agree it's seriously thinning.  I've gone for a blood test and am awaiting results, and in the meantime I'm taking Perfectil, a multivitamin specifically aimed at giving you all you need for healthy skin, nails and hair.

What I want to know is, if I'm showing short hairs at the front of my hairline does this mean I'm getting regrowth and the worst is over?  The reason I'm panicking is because i get married in September 04 and I've grown my hair so I can have an updo.  My hairdresser says we can still do this and she'll add a hairpiece, but I'd much rather not look back at my pictures thinking I was wearing a wig that day!

It's thinned on top and above the ears mostly, although it's thinner all over.  It has happened to me once before when I went to live in France for six months, about 3 months in I noticed how bad it was getting, and that did just sort itself out.  I know I've been under a lot of stress with work and the wedding, I've also gone on a diet for the first time in my life and am properly losing weight, so I've got plenty of reasons why this would be happening.  All of them only temporary hopefully.

I'd really appreciate any advice you can give me, I've even arranged an appointment for a head massage to help me destress and improve circulation to the head.

Thanks

Sam

Hi, Congrats on the upcoming wedding! :)
Sorry about the hair loss. :-[
Back a few years ago my hair started thinning, I was losing hair so bad that you could scoop up wads of hair near the chair where I sat at the computer. I was freakin' out! It mostly fell out behind my ears and at the corners of my hair line. I went to several doctors...they all had theories and test, dead ends. Finally I saw the right doctor and he ran a thyroid test on me. As it turned out my thyroid was messed up. They hooked me up with some medicine and my hair grew back straight way.  If you can't find a good reason why your hair is thinning you might want to look into it. Whatever happens....many blessings on your new life...my you enjoy everlasting love.  :)

Hi and thanks for the responses.

I've had a blood test to check for thyroid problems, diabetes, iron deficiency, that was over a week ago and they've not rung me so I'm assuming there's no major problems but I'll check with them on Monday anyway.  The article about mercury was interesting, I'll pass it on to a friend who's a confirmed fish eater, I never touch the stuff though.  I'm guessing it's stress, my hairdresser says she can definately see regrowth and my sideburns and hair line are showing small hairs, all good signs apparently.

Thanks for your help

Sam

Thanks Saphire - I've had my blood test results back and I'm iron deficient, so hopefully with the iron tablets and massage it should grow quickly.  ???

Glad it doesn't sound like there is anything serious going on.  The iron supplements should help and a scalp massage should too.

You should also consider washing your hair with cooler water.  Hot temps can cause hair to fall out.  Also be careful on how you wash your hair.  Be gentle and just massage the shampoo onto the scalp.  Don't dry your hair by rubbing your head with a towel - again be gentle and pat down your head and hair.

Hope things get better!

I'm sorry, but the only thing you may be able to do is make peace and cope with the inevitable!  My brother lost his hair in high school and it was difficult, but he eventually got over it and he's happily married now with beautiful woman from Australia.  The most you can do is regularly massage you scalp and buy some Tea Tree shampoo that'll open the pores on your scalp. ;)
