Title: Bleaching Hair
Post by sarita on Apr 1st, 2004 at 6:34pm
Hi everyone
I was wondering if I could get some advice... Im considering going blonde.  I have done it before and my hair was VERY dry - had to chop a whole bunch off.  Right now my hair is more than half way down my back.  I have very thick hair.  It is curly and naturally pretty dry, but it is not in bad condition right now.  I am naturally a very dark brown, and right now I have blonde highlights.
If I do decide to go through with this, does anyone have any tips or advice that I can do so that I wont completely ruin my hair!!??  Help!!!  :o

Bleaching hair always damages the hair shaft.  I'm not sure there is a way to lighten from dark brown to blonde without suffering significant damage.  Even if you survive the initial coloring, you would need to continue to lighten the roots as they grow in.  When doing this, you usually end up re-processing some of the same hair, damaging it even more.

Continuing to highlight might be the best answer - at least that does not require subjecting all of your hair to the chemical processing.

If you do decide to color/bleach your hair, be sure to condition your hair after the processing.  I'd also recommend having it done professionally rather than out of a box.
