Aaaahhhh.  Here's a hug for you.   :-/

Hair will sometimes take a resting period that can last a few months.  Could that be what is happening.  How long has it been since you felt it stopped growing?

Have you tried some new hairstyles to try to feel better about your hair?  Or a new conditioner?  Or sometimes it helps to just not think about it for a month.

Consider most people have 1/2 inch of growth a month.  It sounds like your hair IS growing, just not as fast as you would like  ;)

Ok, once again my hair isnt growing, in the 6 months since I joined ***Longlocks*** my hair has grown about 3 inches.  I really fear now that it's as long as it's going to get.  It doesn't seem to be getting longer at all.  Do you think this is my terminal length?

Three inches in 6 months is right on track.  Why do you feel your hair isn't growing?  Hair growth does average a half inch a month, but we all have months in which growth tends to slow or speeds up a bit.

I'm lucky to get 1/2" a month.  That is why I don't measure every month - I would get too frustrated with the little growth I get.  Instead I just measure periodically and am happy with whatever number shows up!

I doubt you are at your terminal length.  Hang in there, it will grow!

Rapunzel, I visited the salon to get my hair dusted today, he said my hair HAS grown, I guess because I see my hair everyday I can't tell a difference between one month and the next.

Bikerbraid, what is the average terminal length?

Terminal length is determined by your average monthly growth, the number of hairs on your head, and your shedding rate.  Most people find they shed less as their hair gets longer.  There are theories that the scalp gets "stronger" as it hangs on to the additional weight which then reduces your shedding.

Of the numbers I've seen people work out, classic length is about average for terminal lenght.  I have known people to have terminal length much shorter than that, but they all had extremely thin, fine hair.

My own theory is that for the majority of us, if you take care of your hair, it will keep growing.  It may slow down.  It may "rest" occasionaly, but it will keep growing.

My feeling is that so few people nowadays baby their hair the way you'd need to to actually reach terminal length, that it's really impossible to make any sort of guess on what the average terminal length might be.

Plus, almost nobody tries.

It would be interesting if we could get some of those hair scientists to work with individuals who feel that they have reached terminal length, give them different hair treatment regimens to follow, and check their growth each month.

One problem is that most scientists don't have the interest or knowledge that a beautician specializing in long hair can have, while most beauticians don't have the background in science necessary to carry out reliable experiments. Maybe a scientist and a beautician could team up for this?

I'm not a hair scientist, just a science teacher, but I could imagine how this might be done. If there are any beauticians out there who would like to work on this, PM me. Maybe we could post the results on that hair research paper website.

The fact that some women have achieved hair length far longer than floor-length would suggest that many more could if they were caring properly for their hair (and had properly motivated hair minions! ;D).
