Title: Hello from Cairn
Post by Cairn on Jun 4th, 2004 at 4:04am
Hello! I've been lingering around this wonderful site for a bit and finally decided to join. I'm 17 years old, just finished my junior year in high school, and have lived in Illinois for my whole life.

So, about my hair:
-My hair's currently 32 3/4" long. The shortest it's been was just above my shoulders in 2nd grade. Last time I got it cut was in layers just below my shoulders in 7th grade. It's been longer since then. I hope to eventually have it long enough to sit on, though I don't think I'd want it much longer than that.
-As for colour: brown brown brown. As brown as brown can get, and stick-straight. I plan on trying that coffee recipe to darken it one of these days...
-My product of choice right now is Redken So Long shampoo and conditioner. They work pretty well, thought I prefer products with more natural ingredients. Yet being a poor high school student I can't really afford to buy all sorts of hair products, so I have to work with what I've got for now.  ::) I also use a vinegar rinse in between the shampoo and conditioner; my scalp is oilier while my ends are drier, so I find this order works better to keep it all even.
-Can't say I have any favourite hair accessories; I'm challenged when it comes to getting hair sticks to stay in. My hair tends to fly out all over the place, so bobby pins have been my good friend on many a bad hair day.  :P Other than that, I can't really say.

This site is wonderful; it's so nice to be among other women who understand long hair-ness. No one in my family really appreciates it, especially my stepmom and sisters, oddly enough. Whenever I even mention my hair my stepmom and stepsis just say I should cut it; they think it'd be healthier short. I don't think they realize that I put much more care into my hair than they do, and have never dyed it or used heat on it for anything, like they both often do. Though my stepsister did say the other day that she misses her waist-length hair; she's cut it off twice for Locks of Love, something I refuse to do. I was glad to hear her say that. (*smug smile*)

My sister, however, hates my hair, for whatever reason. She'll get this disgusted look on her face and say, "why don't you just cut it?" I don't know what her problem is; it's not her head. Ah well, her loss. She's never even had hair past her shoulders.  ::)

What else besides hair? Well, like I said, I'm a high school student. My hobbies include obsessive reading, writing, photography, hiking, and just enjoying nature. Not sure where I want to go to college yet, but I want to major in English. Don't really want to teach though, so I don't know what I'll do. My long-term goal is to be an author.

Well, that's me in a large rambling nutshell...can't wait to meet you all!

Off to bed-
Cairn

Welcome Cairn!

Glad to have you here.  Sorry to hear you have to put up with family who don't understand your desire to have long hair.  Hopefully they will eventually come around to see your side.

Hi and welcome :)
And don't worry, some people always have to criticize others,no matter what you do.If it's not the hair, then it's the choice of clothes, friends, etc.
I can relate,I have a sister in law,who is just like that  ;D

Thanks for the welcomes  :)

Anne-Marie, I know what you mean about the criticism. My sister also thinks she's the fashion guru of the century and thinks the entire family should be on the TLC show "What Not to Wear" (horrible show; I once saw them chop off a woman's lovely waist-length hair to above the shoulders. My sister was thrilled, while I almost cried).

Oh well, I don't care; I've decided to march to the tune of my own long-hair hippie drummer, and am more than happy with who I am.  :)

good for you!!

hi there Cairn, glad to see another strong long-haired person, especially a young one, girls around our age  (im 19) seem more concerned about fashion than their own hair desires. keep growing!
