Title: swimming with long hair
Post by srikal on Jun 13th, 2004 at 1:42am
Hi there,

I just found this message board.  My daughter, 4 1/2, has hair long enough to sit on.  It is beautiful, thick and wavy and she enjoys it very much.  My concern is how to manage it when she starts to swim in the summer.  She will have her lessons midday, while at daycare, hours before I see her at the end of the day.  I don't want her sitting around with wet hair all day.  Are bathing caps really effective?  Last year I put her hair in 25 to 30 little braids each sunday night so that even if her hair did get wet, it would dry quickly at the roots.  She has way too much hair for me to do this now.  Even last summer, I started to develop carpal tunnel syndrome from braiding her hair.  Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Kalyani

It might be difficult to find a cap to fit over all her hair.  If you can find a latex cap like the ones competitive swimmers wear,  they tend to stretch more.  She would need to have her hair on top of her head when putting the cap on.  Putting her hair in a bun or single braid wrapped around the top of her head should work fairly well.

Good luck!

Thanks!  That was what I was planning on doing.  It's good to a have a second opinion.
