I just saw an add on television for John Frieda's Brilliant Brunette line of products. I've seen it in stores too. There's two types, Amber to Maple for lighter brown hair and Chestnut to Espresso for darker.

Has anyone used before or know what the ingredients are? I'm thinking of trying it...

I've not seen the ingredients.  Maybe you should check it out and let us know what you find!

I've heard of that. John Frieda products usually have lots of 'cones, so if those don't work for you, I wouldn't recommend it.

In that case, maybe I won't try it; -cones don't do much for me. I've searched the internet but haven't been able to find a list of ingredients. I'll check it out next time I see it at the store.

I've actually used the Brilliant Brunette Conditioner.

It has Shae Butter in it (or so the ingredients told me), and I did notice that my hair was soft as hell after two or three uses. The creme is actually really thick, and stays where you put it too, like a hair mask in a way.
As for enhancing the colour of my hair, well, I only used the conditioner, not the shampoo, so I couldn't really tell. (That, and my hair is at least three shades of brunette at the moment.)
But for a small tube, you'd pay 10$ for it Canadian price anyways.

I have tried John Frieda's blonde products and they are great but as leia pointed out do tend to be full of cones. I haven't noticed that they lightened my hair either.

Speaking of shea butter, has anyone ever used the stuff as a conditioner? I got a tub of pure shea butter as a present ages ago and it's so darn greasy that I slid off the sofa when I used it on my skin. Could I use it as a leave-in conditioner?

I've not used it myself, but I do know of other long-hairs that swear by it as a deep conditioner.  I think they also use it as a leave-in.  It's worth a try!

My mother always used shea butter on her elbows and feet to minimize callouses.

I use shea butter alone as a leave-in on my ends sometimes. It's also great on the skin! I like to mix it with some conditioner and oil sometimes for a different scent to put in my hair too  ;)

Well, I might try greasing myself up with it tomorrow, just to see if it helps with the frizzies. I helped a friend move today, and by 7pm I looked like a tornado had spent some time weaking havoc on my head.

How on earth do you use it on your skin!? I mean, elbows are one thing, but I was slip slidin' away all over the place when I tried it on my legs. It didn't absorb (or rub off) for about 12 hours!

Shae Butter is generally recommended if you have dry to very dry skin.
I use The Body Shop's Shaw and Brazil Nut oil Body Butter in the winter monthes. It has single handedly saved me from every case of dry, itchy, flaky winter skin that I could have had.
During the summer though, I find it's a bit much for my skin.

I used the maple Brilliant Brunette shampoo and conditioner... and..... my lighter ends seemed to become "even" with my root color.  Otherwise.. my hair overall didn't seem much different after using it..   it says on the instructions that you shouldn't use it for everyday shampooing, so i only used it once because i was afraid it would dye my hair a different shade of brown
