Title: Results of Roller Set
Post by DSW on Jun 24th, 2004 at 4:19pm
Not to be too outrageous, but I (with wife's help) tried using large rollers to achieve a smooth and wavy style. I know it may be a little unconventional for guys :-/ but, what the heck, it worked great and I'm happy with the results.  ;) Kinda fun but time consuming.

I certainly wouldn't wear these to wash the car or go to the hardware store though. (HaHa) OK for gals, I guess, but I don't think the world is quite ready for guys in this mode, at least not in public anyway.

Here's a few photos:

Doing the set on these rollers is a real challange. It took over 1 hour to dry using warm setting on dryer.

I used a setting lotion to help wind the rollers. I don't reccommend this. It resulted in a somewhat stiff and sticky result and I think caused some damage during the brush out.  :( (I won't do that anymore!)

If you want more and longer lasting curl next time, try giving your whole head a shot of cold air to set the curls after they are dry.  Or better yet, try rag curls and sleep on them overnight!

oooh shiny hair! i think its refreshing for a guy to turn his back on convention and do as he likes....well done you! and to be honest....everyone looks a little silly in rollers....so i dont think you'd find many women wearing them in front of other people!   :P  glad you got the desired effect  :)

I love the look!  Fantastic!

As Rapunzel said, make sure the hair has cooled before unrolling, then don't brush out for about 10 minutes.  This helps the curl set better.

I've never been a big fan of setting gel, but I have used aloe vera gel (very lightly) on my ends to tame them when I did do a roller set.

Nice pictures and the wave turned out great! Males have a long history of sitting under curlers. Guys were getting perms back in the 70's. I had one myself (once). And two prominent 17th century astronomers Cassini and Huygens are in the news due to the Saturn reconnaissance missions that bear their names. Your like curls? Check out the ‘progress pictures’ for these two gentlemen:

Yeah, but I'd bet anything they are wearing wigs!

Now, tell the truth... did you have to look up how to spell "reconnaissance?"  ;)

Thanks everyone for your nice comments!! :)

Rapunzel;

I'm sorry but I don't know what "rag curlers" are. How do you use them?

Rag curlers are strips of fabric that you wind your hair around then tie the ends of the strips to hold the hair and make a loop.  The more hair you put on a strip, the more relaxed of a curl you will get.

I frequently use 2 tube socks (clean, of course), put half my hair on each, roll them up and tie them and sleep with my hair rolled this way.  I get nice wavy hair in the morning and my hair was not in my face all night!

(If you use the rag curlers with damp hair, the curl will be tighter, but be sure the hair is completely dry before unrolling.)

Give this a try and see what it does for you.
