I've been reading the Longlocks hair care guide to Long, Healthy hair for a while now, just hadn't joined the message board until now. :)

Hi!

I'm Kaylin, my hair is naturally a dark ash brown, but at the moment, it's semi-golden brown and deep black brown from a previous dye job about a year ago.
From hairline, going across the crown and down my hair is 20" long, though not all my hair is that length. It's currently layered from a cut I had about the same time I got the dye job ('bout a year ago.) Just been mustering up the courage to go and get a "trim", though the split ends are virtually non-existant because I take extreemely good care of my hair. (No blow-dryers or heat appliances, no velco rollers or hot rollers of any type, condition with a protein rich conditioner everyday and shampoo maybe once a week, and I use Infusium 23 leave in treatment when my hair's still wet, and when I tie my hair back, I either use a scrunchy or I braid it and use the goody "Ouchless" elastics.)
My hair is fine and curly, like, spiral perm curly and naturally that way too.
You'll probably see me posting in the Curly Gurl section. :lol:

Pretty, but a BIG pain in the arse at times.
I get the "frizzies" pretty bad, espcially when it's hot and humid.
My hair (at 20" from hair line to ends, measuring over the crown) sounds long (well, it does to me anyways. :) ) but it only up to my shoulders so far.
I used one of those VO5 Hot Protein treatments today on my hair, now it feels great and soft. :)
Wish I could get a few pictures up for you guys, though I currently don't have any of just my hair. :)

I think shoulder length hair can be one of those awkward stages, especially if your hair has curl.  As it gets longer, the weight of the length will tame some of the curl.

ohh I have the same layer issues as you do--The layers are from a year ago and they never grow fast enough for me. Do you plan to keep trimming until your hair is all the same length? Anyhoo, hope to see you around the forum

Actually in a PM I sent to BikerBraid, I think I might cave in and get a trim today sometime, just because my ends still feel a little...crunchy and I think it's partially due to the layered length.
Just a little leary about doing so, mainly because of the "length" I have now, I don't want to cut it off. :LOL:
But I think a trim might be in order.

Trims are always a hard decision to make when you are trying to grow your hair long.  I'd suggest taking small amounts off at at time (1/2" to 1") every 3 months or so.  This way you will still get some growth and maintain your current length, yet start evening up the ends.

On the other hand, if the layers are driving you nuts, then go for a major trim to even them up and enjoy your healthy ends!

So I've got a trim appointment for Friday (was late getting to the salon today, and they're closed tomorrow because of the National Holiday).
