I'm hoping someone here can give me some ideas for my wedding. I've finally set a date after 6 years... And now I'm getting ideas and stuff sorted.

I'm going to be wearing a medieval style gown with a bouquet of silk flowers (I haven't settled on what sort of flowers, just that they're going to be silk). But I have no idea what kind of hairstlye would be good.

I have around mid-back length straight hair that's really boring. I don't know what to do with it. I currently don't plan on wearing a veil, but I was thinking of having a garland or crown or whatever of flowers, or just some flowers throughout my hair... But I don't know.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. If you have photos to show, even better.

Oh, and the date for the wedding is the 28th of August next year.

What fun and congratulations!  Having just been through my son's wedding, I can tell you that you are in for lots of work and fun in the next year.

As for hairstyles, I have seen lots of braided hairstyles for medieval events.  Do you have any Ren Fests in your area?  They usually have hairbraiders that can do wonderful things with hair.

anyhoo...i think something quite simple like 2 small braids made from the front of your hair pulled round to the back with flowers threaded through them and then more at the back (possibly to match your bouquet). that could look beautiful...but i dont have a picture so i hope my description is clear

And flaming_bunny, that does sound really pretty. I wear my hair like that (without the flowers) quite often. I think the flowers would really set it off.

If you are considering some ideas such as shown at Dreamweaverbraiding.com, I have a few suggestions. ;) Basically, almost all braids are based on either one braid (crown, five-strand), or two braids (french or dutch classics, many variations).  The main difference between the two is whether you look better with a part in the front of your hair (such as in two simple french braids) or with your hair pulled straight back away from your face (such as a crown braid or a braid that begins at the back of your head).  That is the first thing I would consider, in light of the shape of your face, etc.  All that said, I have a specific suggestion.
  Go to dreamweaverbraiding.com and look at the Lace Braid example, which is an over-the-top braid like a headband.  I do a very pretty variation.  THe first difference is, I do it so the braid is farther back from the face.  The second difference is, I do it as a Dutch braid, not a Lace (french, basically) braid.  the website has instructions on how to do a dutch braid.

What period is your medieval-style dress from? Can you give us a photo, or a more detailed description? You might want to look up what hairstyles were commonly worn in that period.
