Title: Serious curliness
Post by eKatherine on Aug 6th, 2004 at 8:48pm
I've bought a couple of hair extension wefts from http://shop.store.yahoo.com/texasbeautysupplycom/index.html. The price is right - they cost $7.50 apiece - though there's a learning curve. (I still have to figure out an easy way to comb out a new weft.) I swear I'm only going to buy stuff for projects I have clearly thought through from now on. But this is fun.

Hair weft comes in a 5' piece, which is a long string that has hair sewn onto its length. It is normally cut into strips, and glued, sewn, or otherwise fastened into a client's hair in horizontal layers. I took a piece of Shirley Temple curly weft, and folded over about 6 inches of it into a bunch. I then cut this off and pinned it together. I twisted my hair, intending to tuck the switch into the middle of a cinnamon bun with the curls hanging out, but the presence of the switch prevented me from putting the bun up tightly enough. So I put the hair in a pony first, after which it bunned up successfully. Here you can see the corkscrew curls hanging gracefully down.

Next, I took the rest of the weft, wrapped it around the bun, and pinned it in place. It was a little heavy, but at least part of that was due to the weight of my still-damp hair.

I think this is a little bit too curly (ok, way too much curliness], but I might wear it to a costume ball, if I was trying to be a lady of the French court.

I LOVE the curls!  I might have to agree that the second pic is a bit "over the top" (but would be great for a costume or special occasion).

You've got some great ideas!

In case anybody wants to look, I brightened the pictures and increased the contrast a bit to show up the curliness better.

Wow! It certainly does open a realm of possibilities for costume parties without having to resort to wigs!

My goal is to recreate some of the outfits & hairdos from "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert." Especially the flip-flop dress. Anyone else a fan of that movie?
