Being the lazy lady (questionable title) that I am, I look for the E-Z way of doin' things.

I recently started doing a two-strand braid. I divide my hair by two (instead of the traditional three) strands of hair. Then, I twist the two strands together as I would with three. Because I have curly/wavy hair, I don't even have to put a band on the end; my naturally curly hair holds the two-strand braid.
 
What are the benefits? Well, it's easier and less time-consuming than a three-strander. Plus, it's a slightly different look than your traditional three-strand braid. I had started doing it at night (pigtails) to keep my hair in order while I slept. But, I liked the look so much that I started wearing it that way in public. It's really a cute braid (and EASY). Give it a try and let me know what you think.

P.S.  With straight hair, I think you will have to put a band on the end, or maybe it won't work at all. I don't really know, because my hair is wavy/curly and I'm totally clueless how straight hair works. My sister-in-law saw my two-stranded braids and couldn't believe that my hair could hold braids without having to clasp them at the end. The reason that I don't clasp them is so I won't damage my baby fine hair . Of course, you can put a band on the end if you wish. But, if you don't (you curly gurls), you will find that the braids plump themselves up during the day while you bounce about.

Do your braids turn out looking like ropes? I do this braid too, and love it! I do a french rope braid sometimes too.  :)

The word "rope" had not entered my mind as a descriptor for these braids. But, another member said that is what it is called. Since I don't secure it at the end, it's not real tight. It works for me because it's so easy and I think it is easy on my hair. Plus, I like the look. To me, it looks like that candy that they twist together like candy canes.

I have Very straight hair down to my knees and this "braid" does not work for me. As soon as I get done and let go (whether I use a fastner or not) it unwinds.

actually on straight hair it's way more time-consuming than the three stranded braid. and it doesn't look to great with all those hairs sticking out everywhere.  :'(

then you most definitely do it the wrong way  :P
you have to twist both strands in the same direction, then twist the twisted strands together in the opposite way.
