Title: Things To Do While Your Hair Grows
Post by strawberryfine on Sep 27th, 2004 at 9:23am
1. Take a paper bag, cut two holes in it, put it over your head.  This will hide those pesky layers until it is long enough to bun, braid or ponytail.

2.  Let your nails grow.  This is especially effective if you are taking hair vitamins.  Your nails will grow to a beautiful long length much faster than your hair will and this will also keep the scissors out of your hands, unless you are very dextrous.

3.  Eat popsicles.  This won't make your hair grow (I don't think) but they taste good and it kills time.

4.  Shop online for all the hair toys you can afford.  Put them in a pretty basket and play with them until your hair is long enough to use them.

5.  Make a list of all your hair toys/products.

6.  Make a list of all the hair toys/products that you want but don't have yet.

7.  Sign up on several long hair boards and visit your invisible cyberfriends with long cyberhair often.

8.  When you can't sleep, check all your message boards to see if there are any new posts.

9.  Check your email.  Check to see how long it has been since you placed that order you are waitiing for.

10.  Put down the scissors!

11.  Donate your blowfryer to charity.  Then donate all your other heat appliances such as straightening irons, curlings irons, hot rollers, hot air brushes, etc.

12.  Think of all the money you are going to save on electricity.

13.  Think of all the new hairtoys you can buy with that money you saved on your electric bill.

14.  Make a list of all the new hairstuff you will order now that you have disposable income.

15.  Ignore the increase in your water bill as a result of all that rinsing, rinsing, rinsing.

16.  Check the mail to see if you got any packages/hair toys today.

17.  Count the days until payday so you can order some more hair stuff.

18.  Try to find a hair buddy online with your hairtype-good luck!  You'll probably find lots of buddies but none with your maddening hair type.

19.  If your hair is straight, try to decide if it is really curly.  If your hair is curly, try to convince yourself that it is really straight.

20.  Measure your hair.

21.  Put down the scissors!

22.  Measure your hair again.  If you're very skillful, maybe it will measure longer this time.  If it measures shorter, disregard and accept the first measurement.

23.  Get rid of all but the most cherished neck chains.  Get rid of all clothes with a button at the back of the neck.

24.  Oil your hair.  If inexperienced at this you may wish to shampoo and then oil again, this time with less oil.

25.  Figure out how old you will be when your hair reaches your longest goal.  Then decide not to color it when the grey/silvers appear.  If you already have grey/silvers, stop pulling them out and start counting them.

26.  Again, if you can't sleep, count sheep; sheep with long flowing curls.  Or count Persian cats; lovely long haired cats.  Name the cats.  Name the sheep.  (You could substitue dogs or rabbits or hamsters, etc.)

27.  Put down the scissors!

28.  Get a new paper bag.  Decorate this one with cut outs of your choice.  Paint on your bag.  Paint long curly eyelashes above and below the eye-holes in  your bag.

29.  Put down the scissors!  Don't make me come over there.

30.  Make a list.  Then measure your hair again.

From Bikerbraid--

31.  Practice french/dutch braiding your hair.  Learning when you hair is shorter makes it MUCH easier when it is longer!

32.  If you must pick up the scissors - dust your hair.

Great list - I'd add just a couple of things:

31.  Practice french/dutch braiding your hair.  Learning when you hair is shorter makes it MUCH easier when it is longer!

32.  If you must pick up the scissors - dust your hair.

Great List!  I love ordering/looking at hair accessories.
I always make a beeline to the hair section when I
enter a store.  I would have cut my hair off long ago
if I hadn't found this site.  Shoulder length is the
most frustrating for me because my babyfine hair
really starts to lose volume at this length but it's not
really long enough to do really interesting things with.
It's actually getting below the shoulders now.   I'm
really fighting to stay away from the scissors!!!

Thanks, Leia, for the sweet compliment!
Thanks to Bikerbraid for #31 and 32.  Consider them added!!!

Babyfine, you seem to know EXACTLY where I am on the page!  My hair is very fine, shoulder length with a few leftover long layers and chin length bangs-plus I bleached it last summer so I/ve got that going on too.

Put the scissors down! ;D

I won't cut if you won't,

strawberryfine

Yes, strawberryfine, I have bleach on my ends, too
which I'm trying to slowly trim off, little by little, so I
know where your comin' from. And condition, condition
condition.   The more recent highlights were done with
regular color so I don't have much line of demarcation.
I haven't had any highlights since early May.  I'm going
through a "hate my hair " phase but- I CANT cut it, I
spend too much money on all the long hair things.
BBB, satin pillow case, new comb, jojoba oil, ect, ect. Thankfully my hair is now all one length except the
bangs, which I'm growing out.

Strawberryfine, I love your list!  ;D ;D ;D ;D
You've made my day! I'm going print it out for my bedroom (I obsess too much about hair. Need to find better things to do. Wait... there's nothing BETTER than pampering hair!!)

Here are some to add, lol:

7.33. See if your invisble cyberfriends with cyberhair  have hair journals; read them and steal some more cyberhair ideas you can pursue (e.g. more hairtoy websites to shop, Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab, and other exotic ways to pamper your hair)

7.66. Find someone to deem your "hair idol". Behave accordingly.

16.125. Try hard to ignore the mess of various hair products accumulating in the bathroom.

16.250. Convince your significant other that all of this is completely "necessary". Or, if your S.O. is supportive of your hair mania, have him/her join you in your mania.

16.500. When in doubt, seek psychiatric help.

16.625. Hide your tape measure and cover up the home mirrors for several months. Then be surprised at how long your hair looks when you see it in a store window.

16.750. Go hairwatching. Bask in your own uniqueness. Bet your significant other that he/she won't find someone with healthier-looking hair than you. Buy ice cream with your winnings.

16.999. Eat CHEESECAKE, LoL!

Hugs,
Anais

Thanks Autumn! You made my day ;D!

Babyfine, I'm going through the I hate my hair (IHMH)phase, AGAIN, too.  But all the money I've spent on long hair stuff tells me I can't "afford" to cut my hair-lol!!!

And that is my favorite rationalization for buying more- to keep me from cutting my hair!

Anais! Your additions are grand!!! As soon as I figure out how to edit my post I'm going to add bikerbraids and yours to the list.  I may even start another list-please feel free to contribute!!!

I tried to add AnaisSatins additions to the list but my message was too long and wouldn't take it. SOOO-

Here are Anais' contributions-these are great!

Strawberryfine, I absolutely LURRVED (word stolen from FB) your very first one about the paper bag!!  ;D ;D ;D
And you're not alone with the longhair spending rationale-- That's how I prevent cutting too. Because if I cut my hair now, it would be too painful to sell all the lurvely hair toys I've grown to love :-* (I also keep an old pixie picture by the bedside to make myself cringe, LOL...)

Anais

More for your list!  ;D ;D

7.99. Vote for the candidates with the longest hair.
12.5. Think of all the money you are going to save on hot water.
14.5. Wish wish WISH that long hair care could become tax deductible at least before you retire.
15.5. Then again, try to figure out if you're actually saving water by washing your hair less frequently.
16.220. Reorganize all of your hair products and keep an ingredient file on each one.
16.615 Invent a long hair dance and teach it to fellow longhairs.
20.5. Eat something healthful and take your vitamins.
22.5. Do some housecleaning to prepare for the arrival of your beloved long hair.
24.33. Watch the Lord of the Rings trilogy for the umpteenth time.
24.66. Change your hair goal... again.
25.5 Think about how ridiculous you look with short hair. Put an old bad-cut shorthair picture right next to your scissors to make yourself cringe.
 27.5. Start a hair religion.

Hugs, Anais

::)Anais, Anais, Anais...
ROFKLAC(not sure if that really is one or not, but "rollin' on floor kicking like a cockroach"

The long hair dance has real possibilities-I used to teach ballet and tap and  gymnastics....

-one more for the list:
Have someone (you'll need help here) take a permanent laundry marker and starting at the base of your neck make a series of 1" horizontal lines, at 1/2" intervals all the way down your spine, either to your hair goal or as close as you can get; you may have to divert to your legs if you are real ambitious.  Then number each 1/2' mark.  This way you can keep up with your hairgrowth and if you are lucky the permanent marker will wear off with time.  But if it doesn't your hair will cover it anyway! lol

These are good - really, really good  ;D

I have serious plans to bail out the bathroom before X-Mas visitors come.  I also hope that by then I'll have stopped putting my hair up and down all day with various hair toys.

If Hubs sees me coming with the tape measure he always disappears  ??? ...g

;DGabi-
I know what  you mean about Christmas and the hubby!
Mine tried to "ultimatum me", AGAIN, this morning, about cleaning up my "stuff" (translate: hair stuff) before Christmas.
So, I'm thinking of putting up a tree in my sunroom/den and hanging all my hair toys on it! It should look pretty and nothing will get lost that way!
Deck the halls....Fa-la-la-la la, la-la-la, la!!!

Wanted to re-activate this thread so ellasongbird and any other long-hair wannabes could find it.  Very helpful when your hair is "at that stage".

-get rid of all that hair damaging goo in the bathroom (if you must recycle, put the hairspray near the washing machine & use for ink spot remover--see if that makes you want to use the stuff on your hair again!)

-send your hubby an e-mail with links to your favorite hair toy sites, telling him what you'd like for your birthday, anniversay, etc.

-go long hair watching at the mall

;D

Hmm... folks at work or school or whatever are always happy to take partially used hair gunk off your hands.  I've got a huge bag of -cones and Lauryl Sulfates I just cleared out that way.

Even with that, my roommate's always complaining about  all the bottles I've got in the shower.  And the sink.  And my bedroom.  And the kitchen....

...wow.

Lots of bottles.

My hair care regime consists of a wide-tooth comb, shampoo, conditioner, and a trim every few months. The end.

Of course, it's not that long yet.  ^_-   I may come back here asking just what's IN all those bottles once my hair gets longer!

I like the suggestions. Just the thing for a "wannabe" like me.  ;)  lol. Although I'm pleased to report that my hair has never been so healthy!

I'm starting to find out about the bottles...although I'm too tight-fisted with money to get too carried away.  :-X
I have started a bad-for-hair junk drawer.  It has a curling iron, mousse, hair gel, and a few hair-breaking barrettes so far.  (My hairspray is next to the washing machine ;) )
In place of those things I've started a hair toy collection-- although it is really not much of a collection at this point.  It is enough though to start getting worried about how to keep them organized enough to find what I need when I want it (nothing like trying to hold a particularly stubborn lock of hair in place while digging through a basket, then running through the house looking for my purse to find just the right hair toy -- lol)

so my next suggestion while waiting for your hair to grow
- organize your hair toys - making sure to leave room for the collection to grow along with your hair!

Title: Re: Things To Do While Your Hair Grows

A hairtoy collection is endless source of fun. I started mine when I was trying to get my hair one length- I guess it was around chin level. Now that my hair is longer, I don't need any longer all those pretty bobby pins I bought back then... reorganizing, reorganizing.
In any case, I can keep only part of my toy collection on my combing table- the more rarely worn ones must stay in a small cupboard of that table. Every now and then I sort my toys, take some from the cupboard and in turn put rarely worn toys back there.

My suggestions.

-Make a list of your hairtoys on your computer. List all your hairtoys according to type and color. Update regularly.

- Don't keep all your hairtoys in use. Divide them to small boxes, and keep just one box on your combing table at one time. Change boxes according to seasons/moods/phases of moon/whatever seems approproate

-Buy a nice scarf with a long fringe and wear it. When you are bored, you can practice braiding by braiding the fringe.

-Make a list of all the hairstyles you will wear when your hair is really long.

-Make a list of all the hairstyles you could do with your current length (even those you can't actually make). Be happily surprised.
