Title: Phillips Rejuvenating oil
Post by eKatherine on Dec 1st, 2004 at 9:59pm
After gigi posted that Phillips Rejuvenating Oil was her favorite product and posted an ingredients list, I formulated a recipe and posted. Now that I've started making my own magical potions and buying ingredients, I went and dug out the recipe. Here's what I posted earlier:

Quote:
Here’s the deal with the Phillips Rejuvenating oil, if you want to save money on it and guarantee your supply: all the ingredients are readily available, and the ingredients list is in reverse order of percentage. So they gave you the recipe, now you can make it on your own.

The first oils on the list are carrier oils – although they may have beneficial properties, they also serve to dilute the more active or stronger ingredients. The last oils are fragrances, which may be very strong. You may need less, so I’d start with a little bit, keeping the balance of the fragrance the same.

Prices in the following table came from ]www.camdengrey.com
Oil Quantity   Price   Use this Amt   Value
EVOO 16 oz $4.09    8 oz $ 2.05
Sesame 8 oz $2.62    8 oz $ 2.62
Sweet Almond 16 oz $4.20    8 oz $ 2.10
Jojoba 16 oz $7.95    6 oz $ 2.98
English Walnut 16 oz $4.20    6 oz $ 1.05
Lavender Oil .5 oz $3.65   .5 oz $ 3.65
Bourbon Geranium Oil   .25 oz $4.35   .25 oz $ 4.35
YlangYlang Oil .12 oz $2.62   .12 oz $ 2.62
Gardenia Oil 1 oz $2.88   .12 oz $   .35
Totals $36.56    35 oz $21.76

You will notice that this last line shows you can make a liter for $21.76, with $14.80 worth of leftover materials that you can use in your kitchen or for other cosmetics.

I recommend keeping out a 2 oz quantity and storing the rest in the freezer for freshness.

So how does the cost of making it yourself compare to the price of the actual product? And how exactly do you make it - just mix all the ingredients together as they are, or do you heat anything up or anything?

This recipe sounds interesting and like something I'd definitely like to try. Thanks for sharing it.
