Title: '50s Hair Emergency!
Post by Kate on Dec 2nd, 2004 at 7:57pm
Hi everyone!

I'm going to a costume party tomorrow night and have just decided that another couple, my boyfriend and I will go as characters from Grease (Pink Ladies and T-Birds). I need a funky, teenagery '50s hairstyle!

My friend is wearing her hair in pigtails, so I'd like to do something different. My hair is shoulder length, but the sides are a lot shorter than the back (haven't evened out the layers yet). I have curly hair which is more flattering with an off-center part than brushed straight back. I'd like to avoid teasing, which would of course be the ultimate Sandra Dee look!  8)

Please help!

/Kate

High set pony tail or a flip?

Kate,

You could try making a ponytail like I do, because I too prefer a side part instead of brushing straight back.  Just part the very front section of you hair to one side, and tuck the pieces behind your ears for the time being..  then brush the hair back from the crown, pull the front pieces up as you gather all your hair in a ponytail and voila!

It turns out looking just a tad on the 60's side, but if you tie a scarf around the ponytail holder no one will know the difference!  *winks*

Ohh, and you should curl the ends of your ponytail.. that was really popular then.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I wanted to avoid a ponytail because it felt so every-day. In the end I had high-set pigtails like my friend. We matched down to the smallest detail! ;D I'll see if I can get a photo up if I can get some server space again.
