Title: Hair help
Post by AngelLocks on Feb 17th, 2005 at 4:33pm
I always have had a full foil using 2 colors highlight an dlowlight loved it. However I waited 4 months to have it done again and its the middle of winter where I am so I figured save some money and buy a hairclor from the drugstore to cover and try to blend my roots. Damn I was wrong. I ended up looking like a mis matched head. So I went to the salon and spend $160 to have it fixed the only prob was he used bleach on my hair. He could faintly see the old highlights through the dye so he used bleach to get rid of the greenish color and then the other color. It came out fine until I realized just how much my hair broke. It never broke so much and some parts were like gum. I miss the way my old hairdresser did it ti looked so good and I plan on gong back to her in june once my hair settles down and grows etc. My question is to  be honest I'm not satisfied and would like a refund because I speciafically ased if I would get a lot of breakage and he said not at all(this was my first time at this place I couldnt get an appointment in another salon) so when we rised it and combed it and styled it half my highlihgts were broken off on the floor! Its almost been a week and my hair is in terrible condition! I cant get it to look nice and glossy and its dry. I tried cholesterol and heavy conditioners. ANYONE KNOW OF something I can put in my hair to mend it??? Also anyone know how to go about getting a refund. I've never been so unsatisfied but the guy was a nice guy as well so its even harder me to pick up the phone to call and tell the salon I'm dissapointed. Any advice??? I sure wish I went to my regualr I know this would have never happened! :-/

I'm so sorry things didn't work out for you.

There are products out there that claim to repair damaged hair.  They usually contain protein and/or -cone type ingredients.  How they "repair" the hair, is to basically coat the hair shaft with a flexible gooey substance.  Although this might work for a short period of time, it is not a permanent solution.  Too much build up of the product will smother the hair, preventing any moisture from getting into the shaft, and then hair will become brittle and break or split.  You can counter some of this by using clarifying shampoos or rinses (like vinegar/water), followed by a deep conditioner.  Regular oiling with a light oil such as jojoba oil will also help keep the hair moisturized and slow down the breakage.

As for the stylist.  Your best course of action is to speak with the manager of the salon and explain what happened and how you feel about the service you received.  You should also state that you feel you should have your fees refunded.  You may need to be ready to compromise on the fees, but you might as well start out with trying to get your money back.

Good luck with your hair.

I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience.  Bikerbraid has good suggestions.  Just remember that your hair will bounce back.  I bleached my hair twice and thought it was all going to fall out, and yet it has stuck w/ me.  I used a honey and olive oil conditioner regularly after my bleaching incident and that was the only thing that got my hair feeling normal again.

I'm so sorry to hear about your experience.  I hope you can get your money back.
As for nurturing your hair, here's my suggestion.  It's a pretty heavy duty treatment.
Depending on how long your hair is, take up to 4 tablespoons of either almond oil or olive oil and mix it with the same amount of conditioner.  Wet your hair thoroughly by letting the water run over the hair-don't touch it or move it around.  Gently coat all of your hair with the mix, you may want to comb it through with your fingers or a wide tooth comb (or not at all if you feel your hair is too brittle right now).  You can leave it in for several hours or overnight.  When you're ready to rinse it out, take the juice of one lemon, an equal amount of vinegar and a tablespoon of conditioner.  Apply this mix to your hair and then rinse thoroughly.  It may make your hair a bit dull afterwards from all of the conditioning, but it should help the dryness.  Then you can wash it again in a few days if you want.
Is your hair straight or curly?
Good luck-be patient with your hair.  Treating it kindly consistently will help it recover.

Sakina,

I haven't used almond oil on my hair (big shocker since I actually have it in the house).  Is it as heavy as olive oil?  Do you prefer one or the other for a deep conditioning?

Valerie,
I've used almond and olive oils once each, so I wouldn't say I have a preference.  I think the almond is lighter than the olive.  The first time I used the olive it was as a hot oil treatment with a few drops of lavender eo added.  I think my hair likes both, but I had more trouble washing the olive oil out.  I think it's the combining of the oil and conditioner that gave me such heavy treatment.  I may try this treatment the next time with olive instead of almond-my guess is it will be more emollient.  When I used the almond and conditioner I did find my hair a bit dull after rinsing it out, but it was worth it.  My hair was REALLY dry after my last color treatment (which included a partial removal of permanent color) and this deep treatment made my hair feel normal again.

Thanks for the info Sakina.  I think I'll try this out and let you know how it goes.  I feel like my hair is really dry today after coloring.

i would suggest to anyone lotus powder plus from everyday mehndi! it won't turn your hair "undry" on it's own but what i think it does is coat and fortify your hair in such a way it can absorb way more oil and thus feels a lot greater and thicker :)
i suppose neutral henna does something of the sort too.

Mayonaise and eggs and olive oil..  mixed together and left in for about an hour or so... it's a miracle worker.
