I ran across this recipe for dandruff shampoo.  Any one have any ideas what the rum extract is for?

DANDRUFF SHAMPOO

1/4 cup shampoo of your choice
(but not a shampoo that contains a conditioner, a dandruff shampoo, or an oily hair shampoo)
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
3 tablespoons apple juice
1/2 teaspoon rum extract
6 finely ground cloves

In a blender, mix all ingredients on low for 30 seconds.  Wet the hair with warm water and shampoo the mixture into the hair well.  Rinse with warm water.

Makes 1/4 cup.  Cover and refrigerate.  Discard after 3 days.

I swear I read this somewhere.  I could be wrong, but rum is made from molasses and that is very similar to honey!?

Yep, molasses is made from cane sugar.  Fermented molasses can produce rum.  Both honey and molasses are a sugar and can be similar in texture and sugar content.  Interestingly, molasses is also an excellent chelating agent. An object coated with iron rust placed for two weeks in a mixture of one part molasses to nine parts water will lose its rust due to the chelating action of the molasses. Assuming you don't leave your hair in molasses for two weeks, it can also be used to clarify your hair!
