Post by CourtneyDavis on May 5th, 2005 at 1:17am
Hello all,

I have naturally brown hair and i recently colored it black and i love it.  however, it has been 3 weeks and the color has faded so quick! i still see color coming out in the shower when i wash my hair....can someone please give me some tips on how i can preserve my black hair color, and maybe some tips on what are the best over the counter hair colors to use....thank you so much!!!

All I have to say is...I'm jealous, I dyed my hair black several months ago with L'Oreal Preferance 'Soft Black' and it still hasn't faded!

Do you think the fading could be due to the shampoo you are using? Have you tried shampoo for color treated hair?

I'm not much help, but maybe next time...Try a different brand?       :)  Just a thought.

If you used permanent black color it shouldn't still be coming out after three weeks when you wash your hair. I also color my hair black, I use Garnier Nutresse and it holds the color really well, doesn't seem to fade.

A permanent color should not be fading so quickly or visibly washing out.  It sounds like you might have used a temporary or semi-permanent color.  If you want a color to last you need to use a permanent color.  The brands mentioned Atlantis and Autumn are brands that are known for their longevity in color.

i wouldn't be too sure a permanent one lasts that well either. i was using 80% black (l'oreal crescendo, used by professionals in europe, now called marigel or whatever), it washed out after a month and turned quickly into a dark brown. now henna, that lasts on me ;)

The only time I saw this was with Herbal Essence haircolor  :P
(which is permanent), the black and purple black lasted only a month on myself and others where as with Nice and Easy and Loreal has not washed out.
I am growing out black myself right now and wish it would wash away  :'(

I used the Clairol Hydriance once or twice and I found that it faded too. It is supposed to be easier on your hair, water based or something but it just didn't last.

I know this is late, but here's my 2 cents...

For some reason blue based black hair color does not take on my hair. It simply rinses out when I rinse the color off my hair. Only a red based black hair color will work for me, such as L'Oreal Feria Black Leather (with the long haired man on the box). I've tried L'Oreal Feria Starry Night, Garnier 100% Color black, and Nice N Easy blue black, and nothing works. :/ If you have a problem with blue black color rinsing out of your hair, try switching to a red based color.

i recently found the developer i used was too light to give permanent "blackish" results on me. and i suppose it's the same for those supermarket stuff. but personally the condition of my hair mattered more to me than it's color so i sticked to my mild developer.
