Title: I got my hairs trimmed!

Yep...all of them!  ;)

So here's the rundown on my latest salon experience:

The Good:
The longest layer was an inch or so past my shoulder and the second longest was AT my shoulder. So I had her cut an inch off the bottom. Poof! One layer grown out, only a few more to go! For the rest, I said to clean up the layers and make them look presentable but cut off as LITTLE AS POSSIBLE. Which she actually did. So I've got the shortest layer near my chin, and then very neat layers from my chin to the longest layer (brushing my shoulders). It looks very clean-cut and shiny. Finally, I'm apparently past razor-cut length. She made no attempts to take a razor to my hair, which I take as a sign of good growth!

The Bad:
I look like I have almost no hair left. She really didn't cut much at ALL, but the layers have grown out so much, and the section of hair that still has layers is such a small section at the bottom, that my hair has gone straight back to that flat-and-plastered-against-my-head look. This ALWAYS happens when I reach a certain point in grown out layers. Everything above the layers lies totally flat and only the layers themselves at the ends have any volume. Kind of annoying, but I'm hoping once I get it all to one length in a blunt cut and grow it past my shoulders I'll start looking like I have more hair again.

The Ugly:
This woman is a blow-fryer and hair-product fiend. After the cut, which was very nice, she took it upon herself to heat blast it into a more voluminous shape and then put about twenty different products in it to make sure it stayed that way. NOT a good idea. My hair was sticky and nasty within an hour and I had to wash all the gunk out. Ewwwwwww.

Yep...that's about it. But I'm happy with how this is going. In about three months I'll have been at this for a year. If I'm almost done with growing out the layers I'll be happy.  :)

Growing out layers is soooo tough.  Congrats on getting through another layer.  Hang in there - you'll have it all one length soon.  :D

don't worry, enjoy your layers!! you have time enough to grow them out. i think once around bra strap you could try cutting it yourself and trim them away gradually.

After seeing your progress pictures, Styg, I think you're onto something there.  I had already decided not to worry about the layers any more at this point too.  If I keep evening things up I just lose ground with being able to put my hair in updos, ending up back in the "won't it ever grow" stage.  So at this point, I'm letting the layers be.

note, i had still deep layers cut when my hair was past waist (i regret that because i lost a year of growth, i cut off a lot last summer to get rid of the rat tail.). but i wasn't "growing" my hair back then. i would keep my hair as i like it. i never liked all one length hair until a very extreme length. even right now, with monthly microtrims i am quite ok with my ends, they seemed to have thickened up a lot the last few months.
