Title: CO now making me a greaseball?
Post by divewench on Jul 21st, 2005 at 6:41pm
Hi all!  I've haven't posted in a while, but only lurked because of crazy busy schedules with work and theatre.

I switched several months ago to CO with shampooing only once a week, which worked wonders on my hair.  Now I find that I simply cannot, no matter how many times I rinse my hair, get all the conditioner out.  I rinse, and rinse, and rinse, but still end up greasy when my hair dries.  I've been forced to start shampooing more often, just to keep the greasies away.  Help please!  What can I do?

I don't really know anything about this, because I am too obcessive compulsive to CO...But could it be the conditioner you are using is too heavy/too thick? Do you make sure to rinse well? Have you tried ACV rinses? If none of these things work you could try CWC? Or maybe adding a bit of shampoo to your conditioner? Just some ideas. :) Hope they'll help! ;)

I agree with AtlantisAllure -- try doing a vinegar rinse.  You may just need to get rid of a product build-up.

You could also try diluting the conditioner with water before using it so it is easier to distribute through your hair and to rinse out.

I will try the dilution first, then if that doesn't help, I'll give ACV rinses a go.

Thanks so much for the tips!

As folks have already mentioned, you may simply have a build up of product on your hair. Other things to consider are your stress levels. Stress will exhibit itself in hair frequently before the "hairee" (is that a word?) is aware. Another item is a change in diet. Have you been eating different foods than before? Environment also comes into play. These are all factors to consider. I agree with everyone, do an ACV rinse to restore the PH of your hair. Then start looking elsewhere if this is not the culprit.

You could also try C-COW-C, explained here, which has shampoo in it. It's like a compromise between CWC and CO.

You're wrong on this, CO washing is an ideal focus for an obsession. Take it from a pro.

What products are you using?

I'm using Sense products from Usana - a mail order company.  I love their stuff, and haven't had any problems until recently.

I don't really think it's a buildup - or if it is, it happens very quickly.  I shampoo on Saturday and have bouncy clean hair, don't wash at all on Sunday, CO on Monday and Tuesday, and by Wednesday I'm greasy and itching.  I'm thinking something has changed with my hair, which is causing it not to need as much conditioning?  This morning I tried COW-C, skipping the first conditioning.  My hair is still a bit damp, but doesn't feel weighed down, like it had been with CO.  We'll give this routine a try for a bit, and see how it goes.

Thanks again all - and my hair thanks you too!

I have been doing like you, washing once a week and doing CO followed by ACV but I find that if I let my hair air dry if feels heavy and flat but if I blow dry my hair does fine.

Hmm.  Maybe that's it.  I always air dry my hair.  I'm going to try alternating COW-C with just rinsing today.  So far, so good!

I've found that most conditioners are too heavy for CO washing, even if they work great on your hair after a shampoo. A good rule of thumb is that if a conditioner is expensive, it's probably not going to work for CO washing.

I like Suave Daily Clarifying Conditioner for CO washing, and many others use it as well.
