Hello, I am new to this site, but I'd like to know if anyone has any recipes for a hair freshener? I know this may sound weird but after being around smokers, short of washing your hair, is there any kind of natural spray I can make that will take the smell away? Often I have already washed my hair that day and definately don't want to wash it again so soon! Please help!

I've not had the occasion to need to "freshen" the scent of my hair, plus my own allergies prevent me from using many scents.  However, I do know that some women will add scented oil to distilled water, shake it vigorously, then spray it on their hair.   The scent can be dependent on what you like, such as lavender, rosemary, rose, or whatever.

I have two answers for you, depending on your lifestyle, likes and dislikes and the amount of money you want to spend.
1. As BB said you can use some natural remedies, i.e. rose-water. Another lady of the board and myself, use that. The scent of rose is quite "freshening" and most people tend to love it. I don't know if it can mask entirely very heavy smoke odour though. So far it works for me, but for light smoking environments.

2. Do you have the Shiseido line of cosmetics where you live? They carry a "Hair and Body Freshener" spray which does exactly that, both to hair and to body, i.e. after frying french fries and people come over for dinner before you have time to shower. I have used it in the past for my hair, especially in winter because here smoking is still allowed almost everywhere and I hate the smell. It is extremely good in absorbing the smoke odour although it does have a light perfume of its' own but not an unpleasant one. I haven't used it for ages and had to go dig it out of obscurity to remind myself of its' name. It is really good, but it's a commercial cosmetic.

Salon Selectives makes a hair freshner, and everytime I go out to eat at a smoky bar or something, it takes the smell right out. It's in a small bottle and the color of it is teal. Although I can't remember the exact name. It is very reasonably priced also.

Thank you so much for your suggestions! I live in Australia and the only commercial product I had seen for this was one by The Body Shop but they don't make it anymore, so I decided to make my own. I will try the natural alternatives but I will also keep an eye out for the commercial ones. Thanks again!!

Why not try a homemade herbal refresher?  I have an herbal garden and always an abundance of fresh herbs and I can never use all of them.  So, lots of times I end up steeping them in boiling water to add to my ACV rinse.

Mint is refreshing and clean, as well as sage and Thyme.  I would just add a few handfuls of the herbs to a small pot of boiling water, turn off the heat, and let the stuff steep for a good hour.  Dilute it in a spray bottle with a little water if you like, and spritz away!

Just had a chance to try this out...

I washed my hair yesterday morning, forgetting that I was going out last night.  The smell of smoke in my hair was horrible this morning and I was fairly certain I'd have to wash again today.   I tried spritzing my hair with rose water, and at first it just smelled like smoky roses, but once it dried the smell was gone.  

Its been several hours and my hair doesn't smell as fresh as it should just one day after washing, but it isn't smoky.  It will at least add a day before I have to wash again.  

I've found clove EO to be very good - it doesn't try to go the opposite of some of the smells you are trying to freshen - just changes them rather easily ...g
