Title: Caring for you hair when your sick
Post by Lisabelle on Aug 15th, 2005 at 4:33pm
Hi All,

I was wondering what you do with you hair when you have a cold. I have a horriable cold and was told not to bath by my doctor and not to wash my hair. :P  What I have been doing is braiding it and keeping it out of the way.  I last washed it on friday and ususaly wash on the next wensday, thing is since I've been sweating my hair is really gross.  If anyone has any suggestion I would love to hear them.

Aww Lisabelle, I hope you feel better soon! Colds are terrible. I haven't heard of not taking a bath or washing hair with a cold, but when I had a nasty UTI about a month ago I went around 5 days without washing. My hair felt nasty, but I just pulled it up, and my hair looked alot better when I washed it, because I was every other day.

Sorry I couldn't be much help, maybe someone will pop in with advice.

Thanks MillieBelle - I guess my doctor is really old fashioned when it comes to colds, he's got me on some strange meds. Can I ask what a UTI is?

It's a Urinary Tract Infection. I took those AZO pills they advertise, and instead of helping they made the symptoms go away and make me think that I wasn't sick anymore. I had to go to the hospital and recieve IV fluids because I dehydrated. It was terrible.

Awwwwww, Lisabelle!  Aren't summer colds the worst?
I usually don't mind getting dirty while sick 'cause I know how good it will feel to get clean when I feel better.  My suggestion is put a bandana over your hair.

Feel Better Soon!

I hope you are feeling better soon.  :-/

In the meantime, keep you hair braided and out of the way.  If you hve a satin pillowcase, this is the time to use it.  Even wrapping your head/hair in a silky scarf will help you prevent damage to your hair (and even feel pretty!).

UTI's are the most painful things ever.

Lisabelle:  I hope you feel better soon!  A bandana or a silk scarf would be a great idea to protect the hair.

Feel better soon!

MinnieBelle, I've had those before and drank lots of cranberry juice to help clear it up.

Thank you all for the advise, your all so sweet!! ;D  I have a satin pillow case I use so that should help and I'm keeping my hair in braids.  I'll try the scarf  :D  Thanks again!

*brings hot blackcurrant juice* I hope you feel better soon.

Here, going to shower when one has cold isn't recommended either. The reason is, that a nice warm shower can make things move, and that can result to nasty things like otitis. Also, it's difficult to stay nice and warm while you're drying.

Anyway, when I'm ill, I usually make a scarf bun. It's comfortable to rest with (I can even sleep on that thing), the hair stays away for the whole day and doesn't ever need rearranging like my braids. I can wear it even overnight if I'm too tired to take it down and I look reasonably neat (I hate the zombie-look even when I feel like a zombie). Usually I mist my ends with rose water before putting them up. I've posted instruction for this style in Casual hairstyles. Only thing I'd like to add is that if you're going to use your scarf bun as headrest, make sure that you've inserted the pins so that they won't poke your scalp. You can simply press the bun against your head when it's ready- if nothing pokes you, you've made it right.

I've gone several days without washing this way. I noticed increasing in shedding towards the end, but not that much.

Oy  :'(

I do hope you feel better soonest.  Meanwhile, endulge where you can - having an excuse to do it guilt free doesn't usually last long   ;).

The no showering is very interesting and new to me.  Oddly, when I have a cold I always have the urge to get under water - go swimming even.  Weird, I know ...g

I haven't any advice about the hair, but you do have my sympathy. Get better soon, drink plenty of liquids, and most important of all, eat chicken soup. :)

Try spritzing rose water in your hair to freshen it.

Thanks BB!  :D  The beer rinse was great, my hair is so soft and shiney and does not smell like beer at all!  8)  I got the beer from my neighbor, it was Moslon Dry.  I once heard Stout was good as well.

I hope that's not a Guinness someone used. Perfectly good waste of mother's milk.

3 gentlemen (a Scot, a Brit, and an Irishman) walk into a pub and each order a Guinness. While they are waiting for the stout to settle, a fly comes buzzing by and lands in the Scotsman's drink. When the stout settles, he takes a huge pull from the pint and the fly barely gets away before being swallowed.

Now, the fly lands in the Englishman's pint. Immediately he hollers at the publican to pull another and pushes his pint away. The fly being disturbed once again, flies off.

Yep, landing in the Irishman's pint. The son of Erin takes a bede on the fly and plucks it from his drink, shaking the little guy and yelling, "Spit it out! Spit it out!"

:)

NR, LOL!  Thanks!

I love sushi, Lisabelle.  I hope you'll find a restaurant that suits your tastes.  What a bummer the other went out of business.  Hope you've had a really great anniversary.

Now, where are those pictures of you in the kimonos??

NR LOL!  Nope, I have a free supply of Molson Dry!

Sakina yeah I miss Taka, there they had the traditional rooms which would have been a great place to take pictures of me in Kimono. :'(  Oh well, maybe they will open up again.  They have done it before.  Mind, there were a few Yakuza who would hang out there and they made no bones about staring at me in front of hubby.  I have no problem ignoring any man who keeps looking but I would get a chill thinking who they were but I never showed them fear..

Sakina I use to live in New York and there were lots of mobsters about.  You never really get use to it though.

Well last night went pretty good!  We lucked out and saw a new Japanese resturant in the next town when we were out that afternoon.  They just opened and didn't have a LLCO license yet.  Poor hubby wanted a Japanese beer but settled for iced tea.  I did my hair up in a funky Geisha look http://www.rasysa.com/column/20041207/special/cute/ from this page.  The food was really good and I rubbed elbows with the handsome sushi chef ::)  We always thank the chef personally when we finsh eating. He was very nice and gave us the super hot wasabi we love with our sushi!  The waitress was tickled to see me wear my Zori sandles.  I thought they would have gone really wild to see me in Kimono!

Later we went for a walk in the park next to my house.  There we have deer and were delighted to see a Doe and her Fawn grazing on a apple tree!  We had a great night and this morning when I work up hubby gave me a card and some candy!  Well it's been 17 years and I think that after a while the realtionship changes and gets even better!

What a wonderful evening!  I'm glad you were able to enjoy and celebrate your 17 years together.  I will agree that relationships do change and can get even better with time - hubby and I have been married over 31 years and are still best friends.   ;D
