Title: Sock Curling Question
Post by Valerie on Aug 28th, 2005 at 1:03pm
For all of you that use this wonderful method, is it possible to get curls all the way up to the roots?  I have the most lovely curls from the shoulders down but want them on my whole head.

This week I've been using Anais' method of twisting my hair, then rolling it up.  Before, I've used socks the same way I use rag curling, wrapping and twisting my hair around the sock, then twisting the sock into a bun.  (This method is great for curling hair during the day while out and about, just use a scarf instead of a sock).  But I've never been able to get a full head of curls this way.  I still need to try Christiana's method.

Is it because I am only doing 1 or 2, and will have to have smaller sections to get higher curls?  Is there a way to get the big curls when using smaller sections?

More sections/socks, will give you more curl.  When i Want curls all over my head, I will section my head into 4 quadrants by doing a front to back middle part, then a side to side part.  Each section is then wrapped around the sock.

Another trick I have used is to do two or 4 french braids, starting at the front hairline to about the middle of the back of the head, then doing the sock curls.  The braids will give lovely waves to compliment the curls.

I like the braiding idea with the sock curls and will have to try it.  I'll work on smaller sections too and see if I can find a comfy way to sleep with knots all over.
