I would like to try the recipe listed but I'm not sure if I strain the mixture first or glob it on my hair?

I read the thread on coffee to color hair.  Does coffee dye the gray?

While I don't have any greys yet...I'd definately strain it.  You wouldn't want little bits stuck to your hair, I imagine they'd be very difficult to wash out.

Not meaning to add insult to injury, yes I'd definitely strain. Recipes using coffee and/or teas remind me of DIY shows where they use tea and/or coffee mixtures on fabric or paper to provide an "aged" or "antigued" look. Often they do not strain, but for hair I'd definitely say to strain.

I only used a coffee rinse once because it made my hair stink for a week  :-X, but yes, you should strain it.  Herbal rinses will cover grey but it takes a while.  I've used a rinse 3x/week for the past 5 months or so and it has taken this long for it to cover around 80% of my greys.  Though it's slow, the process is so gradual that no-one will realize what's happening--not even you.   ;)

I use rosemary, sage, catnip, black tea, and hibiscus or honeybush depending on which teabag comes to hand on hairwash night.  I wash my hair, squeeze out the excess water, dip my length in the rinse and pour the rest over my hair.  I don't rinse it out.
