Title: A little story you might like:
Post by rodent on Nov 6th, 2005 at 4:58am
I know many of you get approached by strangers and friends about cutting or donating your locks. I decided to do a little story based on one of my characters of my novel.

Asked of Kirby Ann:

Why are you so attached to your long black hair? Your look is out of touch with current fashion! Why don't you donate all that black hair? Come on! It's just hair!

Said by Kirby Ann:

To you, yes, it's just hair. You see only the surface of what it means to me.

To me, it's more than just holding on to my long hair. Although hair itself is nothing but a dead object, it's still attached to my head and it defines who I am. My hair is both my joy and my curse. It is with me every moment of the day and has been there for every experience of my life. The longer I keep my hair long, the more intregal it becomes in my life.

My waist length hair was my comfort when nobody would talk to me. I could spend hours with it when no one else cared. My hair rewarded me with a deep black shine.

Later, my hair reached my thighs when I met my first real best friend. My lonliness was ended by  another head of long hair, wavey and blonde. We sealed our pact by giving each other a piece of our hair.

My mid-thigh hair got in my face and in the way when I made love for the first time. It may have been a pain, but was a real part of the experience. I carressed my hair when I cried after the accident that took him from me. I ran my fingers through this dead black hair for comfort. I offered a piece of my hair to him when I saw him in a coma for the last time. He left, but my hair was still with me.

I really didn't pay much attention to the length of my dead hair later when I was in a deep depression. I stood one day taking out the tangles and HEY!!! my hair reached a long term goal! My knee length hair brought me out of a deep depression facing a move where I shut out my best friend and everyone who cared about me.

I don't know how long my hair will grow or how long I plan to keep it long, but it was with me through the horrid period of junior high, the turbulent high school years, and my years at college. As I stand here, I dictate how I wear my hair. I spend the countless hours to wash, condition, style and trim it. I plan for it to be with me as I start my adult life, being with me as I make more memories in life.

There may be a time later where I may let go of my long hair. It is for me to decide if or when I want to part with all the memories my hair has given me. Right now is not the time. My dead hair gives me life. Please understand, but you probably won't.

Kirby Ann is a fictional character.

Robin, I know it's possible I had very long hair in a previous existence, but I think it's more being denied longer hair in this lifetime.

Thank you, Maggie. Making my readers become part of the story is my main goal. Today, I feel successful at something.

Trying to develop a lead female character when not a female myself is a trying task. Do you all think Kayla and Kirby Ann are believable characters?  Is there a part of them that says, 'Hey, that's a guy writing this, what does HE know?' ???

That is so poetic!  You are very talented.

That got me thinking that growing my hair represents patience.  I certainly wasn't patient when I was younger.  It's nice to have tangible proof of this virtue.

Wow! that pulled me right in. You are very talented Rodent!
Some writers would have to write a 200 pg. book just to include HALF of those hair adventures.

I hope i have such memories with my hair...*sigh*

This is from my new 'Renni' album. This is the only image of it; it's not even been uploaded to my site. Could still use touching up....

Sir Rat;
I'm still waiting for Chapter 6 of the Goddesses - is their hope for this story line being continued?  ;D

Yes, actually chapter 6 is finished and 7 is close. See my writing under the 'Migraine' thread on the "let your hair down" board where I explain my tardiness in new chapters.

I plan on seeing this to conclusion.
