Title: outrageously crazy!!! (picture included)
Post by lionheart on Mar 27th, 2006 at 11:43pm
okay so my hair has always been rebellious, dry, frizzy, and thick- but I've always been able to keep it at bay, making it at least presentable....

Well.....let's just say it's the same way now except that when I comb it, it turns out terribly poofy and overly frizzy. combing seems to trigger it too, and it seems that when i dont comb it it actually stays less crazy.....not to say even then its not! also, I use moisturizing shampoo/ conditioner, which helps, but even that doesnt solve it.argh!

anyway here's my hair at it's worst ,a day after washing it, and after wetting it w/o shampooing.(note: I censored my face cause I cant stand seeing myself with my hair like this :( ) :

terrible, huh? I really love my hair, and I just want it to be at least not frizzy and more flattened down, in the least... pleeeeeeze help people.......i prefer ways of taming it without too many hard-to find products, but I still want all the suggestions you all have. Thanks in advance...

I'd say don't comb or brush unless absolutely necessary.  Use your fingers for detangling.  Always use conditioner after washing, and don't rinse all of it out.  Just hold your head under the rinse for not more than five seconds.

Gently squeeze your hair dry with a towel, no rubbing.

Let air dry as much as possible, some careful blowdrying is all right.

THEN---add your daily oil!!!!!!!  I recommend coconut oil because it is light and non greasy.  Find an amount that is "right" for your amount of hair--get it on your palms, and beginning at the ends, so that most of the oil is absorbed there, run your palms along the ends and then down the length of your hair.  If oiling your whole length makes you look too greasy, stop at ear length or so.

Hope this helps some!!!

P.S. You can get the cocount oil in the cooking oils section of the grocery store.  I get mine at Wal Mart, it's the "Lou Ana" brand.  It's cheap for a big container, too.

Yep - Christiana gives good advice - just what I would suggest!

Curly hair looks best when the curls stay together.  Combing separates the hair giving it that poofy, frizzy, out of control look.  Add a bit of "weight" such as the leave in conditioner and/or oil will help the hair define the waves and curls and look its best.

Good luck!

thanks christiana, and bikerbraid:) but......er, I couldnt find coconut oil when i was at acme today.....hmmm where else should i look?

Also, bikerbraid, my hair is more so wavy, its not really curly, even though it looks somewhat so in this picture. Uhhh, so does the same rule about "staying together" apply for wavy, too? thanks both of you for the help so far, btw. appreciate it. ;D

About the coconut oil--you might be able to find it at a natural or organic food store? I shop at a big Wal-Mart Supercenter, so I've never looked anywhere else for it.  If you can't find the coconut oil, try some olive oil.  Every grocery store should carry that.

Yes, the same rules can apply to wavy hair.  I use these "rules" when I have purposely created braid waves and wear my hair loose.

Other oils you can try included jojoba oil (found in health food stores or on line), or olive oil.  The olive oil is much heavier than jojoba, but usually works well with hair that has more curl/wave.
