Title: Something new from Conair
Post by Angel Spun on Apr 6th, 2006 at 9:45pm
I wasn't really sure where to start this thread, so feel free (mods) to move it to a more appropriate location if necessary.

So the other day, I was browsing through Target (the hair care aisles, of course  ;)) and made a startling discovery.
It seems that Conair now makes seamless, hand-made combs! Just like those made by brands like Kent and Rachael Stephens...only these are cut from a solid piece of acrylic instead of cellulose. And they cost about half as much.
I immediately produced my RS #45 from my purse for comparison to the extra wide-tooth Conair comb and they were virtually identical!! Cynical as I am, I figured that there must be a catch somewhere to make the Conair combs not as good. So I searched each and every tooth for even the slightest seams...and there weren't any!
In a mix of shock and frustration, I put my RS #45 back into my purse and walked away, muttering, "I can't believe it." Within minutes, I was back in the aisle, furiously comparing and searching for seams again. I actually did this about 2 or 3 more times.  :-[  I'll admit that I am rather hard to convince these days.

My questions are these: Has anyone else seen these new seamless Conair combs? If so, what do you think of them? Would they work as well as the more expensive cellulose combs? Are they half the price for a reason?

I'm still in shock and skeptical, but I am more than willing to give these a shot if you all think that they might be worth it. Any opinions?

Are these the same ones you can use in the shower?  If they are I bought my Conair early last year,it is seamless,wide-toothed and I use it in the show to distribute conditioner.  I got it at Eckard (drug store) in the hair care aisle and I think it was about $4.

Sounds like a great buy - I'll have to check it out the next time I get in to Target.

Curlgirl64: No, these are not the same ones used to distribute conditioner in the shower. These are honest-to-God seamless acrylic combs...they even have the same tortoise shell pattern as the high-end ones.

Anais: I didn't check the price for all of them, but I know that there is a fine-tooth rattail comb, a dressing comb with both fine and coarse teeth, and an extra wide tooth comb (this was about $6.99 or $7.99, I think). I'll check the prices on each as soon as I can go back. But I remember ordering my RS #45 for about $13!

BB: Sounds that way to me as well.
And as a small update, one of the teeth in my RS #45 now has a tear in it...so I imagine it will be only a matter of time before I am forced to buy the Conair one.

Alright...

The extra wide tooth comb is $6.99
The coarse/fine tooth dressing comb is $5.99
The fine tooth rattail comb is $4.99

I bought the extra wide tooth comb today. It's alright. The teeth are more pointy and square at the ends than my RS #45, but it's still a seamless comb, right? For half the price, even.
I'll use it for awhile & see how it goes.
