Title: Harder to find styles?
Post by novusfemina on Apr 27th, 2006 at 1:42pm
Now that I've been at tailbone (and a little longer before the trim) length for awhile I've noticed that some of the styles I used to do are now harder to do.  I can still make a bun with my regular-length longlocks sticks, but all but the beaded ends are hidden in my great mass of hair..

A figure 8 bun still works too, but I tend to drape it horizontally (sp?) across the nape of my neck, rather than vertically as it distributes the weight better.

But in general, it's harder for me to put my hair up.  Do you ladies (and gentlemen) with longer hair notice that it's difficult or near impossible to put all of your hair up?

And what are some down styles (either than a single english braid, which I use often) that you could recommend?  I guess I'm just tired of the day-to-day hairstyles and want a little razz-matazz to spice up my hair wardrobe....  :)

Hi novus femina,
While having no intentions of cutting back my hair, i too admit to being restricted as to how i should wear my hair. While not conforming to the stereotypical male short style i admit to only really styling hair in a few ways.Pony tail, loose or my most common style english style braid which you mentioned. I am not really as qualified as all you beautifully long haired women are, especially those who perhaps make use of more hair accessories incuding the hair sticks which feature on this site. Basically i am restricted by being limited to the styles wearing down and not familiar with the updo styles including buns.
Any way i am sure that plenty of long hairs here can give you a greater variation of styles for wearing both up and down that you would like and maybe give us males a couple of ideas as well.

take care
jon

ps you have such wonderful red hair. very stunning and the pic showing your "redbun" is beautiful and extremely sophisticated.

My hair is fairly thin, so I can still get my classic length hair up in a bun with a fairly short hairstick.  However, I have found that the figure 8 is more secure than a bun.  I use 2 sticks - one to hold the hair and the other to be more decoration.

You might try two buns so you can show off your sticks better.  ;D

Even though I'm probably at 32 or 33 inches(today I had a trim) I find that a top bun works well for me.  My hair is thick and loose corkscrew like curls(when it wants to  :) )  Hope it helps!

Aww, thank you very much, Jon.  :)

Bikerbraid, I'm going to try two buns.. sounds like an excuse to coordinate my sticks...  :D

Curlgirl... top bun?  Do you mean a half-up, half-down variation?

yes,I do.  You part the hair behind each ear and make a pony tail alittle off the crown of your head and either braid it or put it in a bun.  For me it's not so overwhelming to do a bun that way. :)
