Title: Story of a Future Hair Muse
Post by longhairdreams on Jun 2nd, 2006 at 6:26pm
I guess I'll start with a little backhistory.I used to have fried dyed hair.I would only keep a haircolor for a month at a time.To make things worse I used a blowfryer(love that term ;D) regularly.

I know these things are absolutely horrible for you hair, but it kind became an addiction. So I finally got sick of the way my hair looked and felt.So I decided to start over. This isnt the first time .This is just the first time I'm serious about sticking with it.

The last time I did it so I could dye it blond from virgin hair ::).But I did it this time with the right intentions. So i shaved my head.It symbolizes alot for me.It was a way not only to start over with healthy hair, but to also cut myself off of the part of society that thinks everyone should have blond hair and blue eyes, and should weigh 90 lbs.Its very destructive and insane to try to live wanting to look like something your not.

I'm not blond and blue eyed. And I'll never weigh 90 lbs.
I'm Dark brown with hazel eyes. And I weigh a very comfortable 125.And for the first time in a long time I'm ok with that.

So after that first sort of rant, lol.I think I'll start off with actual hair topics.

Right now I'm doing Water washes. With an ACV mixed in here and there to take care of that thick scalp feeling. Its working out really well.I just hope its ok to not S&C since I have been doing ACV rinses.

I'm about to order some fun hair things I've been reading about.

1.Chagrin Valley shampoo bars
and a lotion bar cause those sound absolutely wondeful
2.Pure Jojoba oil
3.Silk sleep cap
4.And Rics wooden hand comb.(I'm most excited about this one).

It mentioned engraving for the combs.I wonder if they meant that they would engrave their company name?Or if you can get your name engraved on it?That would be really cool.

Hi and Welcome!  Ric will do both on the comb.  Engrave the name you want and also his company name, year and type of wood.  At least that is what's on mine. ;D

Thanks so much.I was hoping they would engrave it.

Now I'm even more excited.

I dont really have much to update on. ::) Yep my hair is still short, lol.

So I thought I'd post some old pics.

This one is when I decided to grow out my hair before.
It was nice and healthy despite using heat and loads of chemicals.

This was taken not long before I shaved it all off.

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b33/longhairdreams/random%20pics/Cap0410.jpg

And this one is the same hair. After this cut I got the bright idea to dye it dark brown. Then i got bored so I bleached it and put dark blonde on it.It was very ugly.

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b33/longhairdreams/random%20pics/Cap0409.jpg

I really liked the pixie, but it was alot of upkeep.

The blonde made it feel like straw.Which was the last straw ;D.So I decided it was finally time to start over and grow my hair out right.

This is the only time I havent been thinking about all the hair frying things I can do once my hairs grown out.

Its really exciting thinking about how my hair will look naturally.

Okay I finally got my pics working, lol. ??? lol.

I'm still doing ACV rinses and scritching. It seems to keep my scalp from feeling too thick with crud.

I never realized how ashy my hair was before. The more it grows in the more cool it looks. It has a bluish green cast in natural light.I always assumed my hair was warm toned.

I'm still wearing wigs right now.My hair isnt quite long enough to pass for a girly pixie. Its still in that stiff stick straight up cant part it to save your life stage.

Hi, Longhairdreams! Thanks for sharing those pics. :) I think it's really cool that you shaved your head and are starting from scratch, so to speak. I don't think--wait--I know I wouldn't have the guts to do that.

Wow, longhairdreams, your hair is gorgeous!! I wish mine was the same colour & had that much body!

I've often thought about shaving my head, too. Just starting all over with all of the "hair knowledge" I have now. Might make for much healthier growth.
I don't think I could ever hack it though (bad pun). The whole Q-ball thing would get old very fast, I think! Not to mention losing my job & the looks I'd get just walking down the street.  ::)

You had the guts, though, so more power to ya! I hope your new growth is long, gorgeous & totally healthy.  :)

Thanks alot guys. :) I wish I could say I was brave, but I'm definitely not.If it wasnt for realistic looking wigs i would have never done it. I'm so sick of these wigs already.I cant wait til my hair is at least pixie length again.

So I guess thats my first hair goal Pixie length, lol.Pretty funny when there are so many on here with long gorgeous hair that have goals of waist and longer.

I love that people can respond in the journals. Its definitely a good way to keep you on track when you know others are supporting you :D

lol, if I were starting off from scratch like you are, pixie length would definately be my first goal too. Think of it this way, all of us had to start growing from somewhere; none of us woke up one morning and had butt length hair...tho that would be rather nice. ;D

So recently i tried out two shampoo's after having only used water for a long time(with ACV for scalp itchies).
I was not happy with either results.

The first one I tried was actually supposed to be a natural shampoo bar.Its not a chagrin valley kind. But the bar has the same ingredients you would find in the chagrin brand.I used it once before awhile ago with bad results that time too.I figured it was probably because my hair was so fried at the time. But since I had identical results with virgin hair, its obvious my hair just doesnt do well with the shampoo bars. It made my hair feel really dry and dirty. It felt like it had a heavy wax on it.
I rinsed very well so I know it wasnt that. I tried to oil it back to normal. But it still felt horrible even after the oiling.

Then I tried the ken paves no sulfates shampoo. My hair was so clean it squeeked, lol(wish I was kidding). So It felt alot better than when I used the shampoo bar.But it still felt pretty dry.

So I decided to swear off shampoo. My hair is just starting to feel better after the evil poo incidents.I could understand if my hair was naturally dry,but its not.It actually very oily. I think if I use anything new it will be conditioner.

I'm just so suprised.I heard so many good things about natural shampoo.I guess its true that everyones hair is unique.

So my hair never quite recovered from those awful shampoo's.So I decided to use a light conditioner. It was just enough to make my hair feel soft again.

I cant wait til my hair is a little longer.I think I'm going to buy some plastikhaar and braid it in.I was thinking I would do some natural color mixed in with blonde. My hair just needs another inch or two.Plus pinchbraids wont hurt my natural hair.

Wow, Its really been awhile since my last journal entry.I'm not sure why it says I'm an ex-member? :-? My hair has grown quite a bit.Its between 4 and 41/2 depending where I measure. And its 16 over the top and down the back.

My routine now consists of Aveda clove shampoo and conditioner during normal washes. And nuetrogena anti residue for the length, and T-sal for scalp every three or four washes.I just started on the nuetrogena products,so I'll se how that goes.

I tried using just shampoo bars for awhile.I loved how my hair felt. But they made my hair to open to damage. My hair needs cones to give a little more strength. And thats ok.I just need to find a reasonable clarifying.I'm hoping the anti residue shampoo works out.I tried a diluted baking soda rinse. But my hair felt dry for days after. My hair doesnt like it at all.
Here are some new pics. These a little old too.But newer than the last ones I posted.
The first one is more like what my hair looks like. And the second one is of extensions.

Crossing my fingers that it works.

Thank you bikerbraid :).I actually didnt come back for so long out of shame.I'm sure you remember all to well the crazy spammer. And I thought I was helping by posting warnings all over the board.I guess that makes me just as crazy as the spammer.I felt pretty foolish after the fact. But my intentions were good.Live and learn.

Longhairdreams,  Don't be embarrassed  :-[ about that spam thing!   I don't know what the usual remedy is for something like that, but I remember when that happened and I remember thinking that it was very kind of you to take the trouble to warn everyone.  I appreciated it. :)

Awww, don't feel bad.  I appreciate it when someone alerts us to a problem.

So my hair is hating this cold weather right now.My ends are so dry.I have been using alot of oil .It helps ,but only til about the next day.I went to ulta on monday. That store was like a hair junkie's dream come true.I couldnt leave without buying something. So i bought a trio by bedhead that was on sale(cause I'm cheap). It was a shampoo.conditioner, and shine spray.I was so excited to use it.But I'm sad to say I'm pretty dissapointed. The shampoo had a nice rich lather, but that was about it.The conditioner and my hair dont get along.I think it had too much protein it.My ends felt pretty crunchy after using it.And I bought the stupid set mainly for the shine spray, but it was the worst of the bunch :'(.It didnt matter how I used it( I tried three time)it always left my hair looking greasy. The last time I covered my root area with a cloth(greasiness showsup here first I've noticed) and sprayed way far away, and it still looked bad.I had always heard good things about this brand.

My hair just isnt getting moisturized enough with cones.I dont get it,when I was dying and frying my hair it felt better than it does now.I know my ends partly feel dry due to being so wispy. But I'm still torn whether to even up the ends or not.My father in law told me it looked good and to leave it alone. And he's not one to readily hand out compliments.I'm going to get one of those jessica simpson hairdo thingys
http://www.hairuwear.com/jessica.aspx?pgID=997.So hopefully that will keep me away from the scissors for a little while.
