Title: Collections Chat
Post by Rapunzel on Jul 15th, 2006 at 9:36pm
I gotta tell ya, posting some of these collections is like taking a walk down memory lane!  I sure wish I still had some of those beads in *my* collection, LOL!

Even though I've looked at every stick you have placed on the site in the past 2 years, Susan, I still marvel at the beautiful beads and stick finishes.  Now seeing everyone's collections I can see where those "favorite" sticks that I wished I could have owned have gone.  It is nice to see they went to good homes!

I'm still drooling over all these sticks...I'll have to go back to Greek Lady's collection and drool some more....

Wow I just looked at the new and updated collections, they're so lovely. There are a lot of lucky collectors here. I'll bet there are so many more even more beautiful that aren't posted too.

When I looked at my own collection, they looked so pretty that if they weren't mine, I'd be longing for them. lol.

You could get a SO of the pair and ask for a different colour sticks so that it would look even more amazing in your fair hair :) You can see it as a blessing in disguise.
Oorrr you can throw a tantrum!  ;D ;D ;D

greek_lady knows all about tantrums :P

Actually, a different color falls into the custom design category... which I would be happy to do if you don't mind waiting until my first open custom design spot in April of 2008!  One in the same colors with only a minor change tho, would qualify as a special order and can be done *much* more quickly!

Greek Lady - I just checked out the sticks Susan posted in your collection today.  I must say Plum Rose Special Edition PearliStix look to be extra special.  Are the tops glass beads for the flowers?  They certainly are beautiful!

Title: Re: Collections Chat
Post by greek_lady on Jul 22nd, 2006 at 4:40am
BB I have no idea!! I do certainly hope so.  :)
You see I just got them last night and Susan listed them for me so things can be kept *organised*  ::) ::) ::)
So I still haven't received them!! Hopefully within next month.
I fell in love with those beads too and I bought this pair that is not in "my colours". But it looks so wonderfully matched and designed and really a very collectible awesome pair. Only prob is that I have absolutely nothing green to wear it with. I guess pale mauve will have to do  ;D ;D

I am happy that I got it but showing off is not in my nature. Am feeling quite a bit uncomfortable and guilty, all things considered. Major part of the reason why I put up pieces of my collection is for the beautiful artwork of Susan to be *there*, to be seen. Like a gallery for the work of a painter. Or like the "Cow Parade" of all those artists (do you have them over there? it has been here in Athens this year).
A tribute to the beautiful work of a real jewelry artist
:)

Greek Lady,
Don't feel like your collection is "showing off".  It is a testament to Susan's artistry and your good taste!

But, if you feel you have nothing to wear the Plum Rose Special Edition PearliStix with, send them my way - I'm know I have something to wear them with!  ;D

What I want to know is if anyone else has seen a pair of sticks so beautiful it actually made your catch your breath and tears well up in your eyes.  I saw one pair that made me gasp, and I was hooked.  I HAD to find a pair for me, and I bought my first sticks.  Then I got a couple of more, but my husband cut me off.  He CLAIMS we have no money.  <snort>  Yeah, right.  Just because we're broke doesn't mean anything.  ;)  I told him if he can't afford an endless supply of hair sticks, then I'm finding a wealthy man to take as a second husband just to buy me some.  lol

Title: Re: Collections Chat

There are many of Susan's designs that take my breath away.  I'd love to see the one that inspired you to start a collection.  If you PM me with your "real" name, I can have Susan post your collection so that you and the rest of us can admire your sticks.

Title: Thou Shalt Not Covet thy neighbor's hairsticks
Post by oldkathy on Aug 25th, 2006 at 1:46pm
Oh no!  I've only seen the first four pages of Greek Lady's collection and I am guilty!    Each one is more beautiful than the next...  Now I know where all those beautiful aqua sticks go.  The white lily bridal stix are just what I need when I renew my wedding vows next summer.  I'm soooo jealous!  But in my heart I know that I should be happy for you, Greek Lady.

Title: Re: Collections Chat
Post by bikerbraid on Aug 25th, 2006 at 2:18pm
OldKathy;
Keep watching for new sticks - I'm sure another pair will show up in time that will be perfect for your vows renewal.  (How many years have you been married?)

Title: Re: Collections Chat
Post by greek_lady on Aug 26th, 2006 at 3:28pm
OldKathy, first of all from what I can fathom from your gorgeous bun and awesome turquoise hairstick, you are not "old" at all.  Your nickname is misleading  ;D ;D
Second and most important, you do know you can ask for a SO version of an existing hairstick, yes? Something very very similar to the original stick but always with a bit of difference so each pair is not exactly duplicated.
Better still, do what BB suggested keep coming back again and again and surely something will come up that will be even more perfect for your special occasion.

Last but not least : Thou shalt not covet my hairsticks or I shall covet thine!! hahahahah  ;D ;D ;D ;D
Just joking ok?  :P

P.S. Yes I do love aqua and turquoise and zircon colours among others. Are you going to be a rival??  ;D ;D>:( >:( ;) ;)

Title: Re: Collections Chat
Post by oldkathy on Aug 26th, 2006 at 9:48pm
Yes, Greek Lady,  I do know that I can do a special order for a similar pair.  That's what I did with the Hot Tea Silver Stix.  Now I can wear them for Red Hat Society.  I may do a special order later on a pair for my wedding vow renewal.  (It's not till next July)  I just wish that I could be your rival, but I can only afford a pair now and then!  And turquoise/aqua are my favorite colors.

Bikerbraid, after being married before for 18 years, then a heartbreaking divorce, I never expected to make 20 years on this one. (Actually, I never even expected to marry again!) But next July will be 20.  Lots of our friends are celebrating 40!

Title: Re: Collections Chat
Post by bikerbraid on Aug 28th, 2006 at 12:05am
Congrats on your up and coming 20th anniversary.  That is commendable for a 2nd marriage.  Such an occassion warrants a most special hairstick.  Good luck in finding/designing the perfect stick for your celebration.

Congrats to Galadriel and Malacker who just bought gorgeous sugarstix!  I drooled over both the October Garden and the Blue Butterfly ones, but my bank account wouldn't justify the purchase.  Enjoy them!

Post by berkanna on Sep 18th, 2006 at 2:14pm
Hee - I should probably mention that two pairs in my collection actually belong to my sister.  I bought her Torrid to wear at my wedding (and you can see her blonde self wearing them in the Gallery) and I bought her Picasso's Blues for her birthday.

If Rapunzel has the pics of the rest of my collection, you'll notice those two stick out as being very different.  That's why.   ;)

Thanks for congratulations, OldKathy. SugarStix are soooo bad! ;D (for my budget, for my hair they are absolutely perfect).
I seem to have two "themes" in my collecting: I think I have 4 pairs with butterflies/dragonflies at the moment, and also 4 pairs that feature twisted ribbon beads.

Title: Re: Collections Chat
Post by bikerbraid on Sep 18th, 2006 at 5:19pm
I love the twisted ribbon beads but have not yet been able to snag a pair.  Hopefully I'll find the right ones at the right time soon!

Title: Re: Collections Chat

They're definitely worth the hunting- the little twists are absolutely mesmerizing. Susan seems to post pairs featuring these beads quite regularly- you'll just have to be very quick if you want to get a particularly gorgeous pair. ;D

While I can only dream of my next pair of Longlock hair sticks, Greek Lady has added another 16 pair (well 14 pair and 2 geishastix)!!!   What an amazing collection!  Shall I assume that you've been Christmas shopping here?  I drool over each and every one.

Title: Re: Collections Chat
Post by bikerbraid on Oct 22nd, 2006 at 9:10pm
Few will ever be able to compete with Greek Lady's collection, but each of us can treasure the sticks we have and enjoy displaying them in our hair.  I love to "window shop" the sticks..... I could never afford to buy all that I would want, but it is nice to see whose collection the sticks go to.

Title: Re: Collections Chat
Post by oldkathy on Oct 23rd, 2006 at 12:56pm
I agree completely, Bikerbraid.  I wouldn't know where to put all those hairsticks if I could afford them!  But I love to look and drool over them just the same.  So that brings me to my next question:

Okay everyone, where do you store your hairsticks?  Do you keep them covered and rolled in jewelry rolls? Do you keep them in a jewel box?  Or do you leave them in plain view on your dresser?  Mine are in a short vase on my dresser, for easy access.  Someday I hope to have one of the display jewel boxes.

Title: Re: Collections Chat
Post by bikerbraid on Oct 23rd, 2006 at 1:12pm
I used to keep mine in a pottery bowl on the vanity in the bathroom.  However, last Christmas, for fun, I bought a styrofoam cone to make a Christmas tree out of my sticks.  I loved displaying them that way, so my "tree" is still in the living room where I pick out my sticks for each day!

I want to see that stick tree too!

This last summer, my sister bought me an amish-made basket with compartments after I said "that would be perfect for my hair stuff!".  It has a long compartment for my mirror, brushes and combs, then three smaller ones, in which I put socks, baggies of barrettes and ponytail holders, scrunchies, bobby pins and my hair sticks, which just lean up against the sides.  Someday I'd like to get one of those jewelry rolls--it would probably fit nicely into one compartment.

Title: Re: Collections Chat

My collection is relatively big, so in order to be able to find the pair I want to wear on a particular day, I need to keep it in good order. Right now my hairsticks are stored in jewelry rolls, sorted by colors.

I am thinking of buying a glass cabinet though. Then I'd be able to put at least part of my collection to display.

BB, I think I've said this before, but I think your hairstick tree is great!  [smiley=tekst-toppie.gif]

I wish I could keep my sticks in a vase or jar - it would look so nice!  But, I have a kitty who likes to chew on things, so I need to keep them out of his jaws.

I used to keep them in a stained glass box, but I just bought one of Susan's display cases, so now I can SEE all my sticks without digging through a box!  Well, most of them - I need to get a second tray already.

Post by oldkathy on Oct 24th, 2006 at 5:33pm

The October Garden are even more beautiful than the photos. They sparkle so! I even bought a shirt to match the cream coloured part. Do you all find you just can't stop with these? I see so many I want! Susan does such an exquisite job creating these works of art.  I love my hairstix so much I created a page on my website, and have posted photos and a link to Longlocks. I just bought 2 new pair. 2 of the pairs in my collection I gave to my sisters for their birthdays, Sparkling Meadow, and Atlanta Rose, as they also both have long hair. Sparkling Meadow has long light red hair, and Atlanta Rose has long, deep chestnut brown hair. At work, the girls in on of the offices always look to see what hairstix I am wearing that day! I suppose there are worse addictions to have... ;)

I agree that once you start a LL collection, it is hard to stop.  Each new pair of sticks is more beautiful than the last.  I love to check the latest releases to see what Susan has created.  Your sisters are very lucky to be receiving such special gifts from you.

oldkathy,

SugarStix have become my favorite line. I'm not usually fond of romantic, flowery designs but SugarStix are the exception to that rule. They look beautiful in the pictures, but IRL they are just breathtaking. No wonder they sell fast!

What credit card? I use my debit card so I've only got what money I actually HAVE to spend. :)  Unfortunately, my Granma just passed away recently and I've been sending $500 every two weeks home to my father to help cover the final arrangements and assorted bills.  No new hairsticks for a while!
