Title: Hair was straight...now...its YUCKY!!
Post by SP_Beauty on Aug 22nd, 2006 at 7:30am
My hair was straighter than straight until I moved to yucky humid Texas (I lived in Reno, NV...less than an hour away from Tahoe).  Now my hair does this some wavy and and some straight thing...it looks NASTY.  I have also noticed my hair is constantly frizzle-frazzled looking unless I use the flat iron or blow it dry...both I hate to do and really try to NOT do.

My hair also looks really dry lately like I don't use conditioner...what is wrong with me/my hair?  I don't color it and I lately have not been outside in the sun due to my night owl working hours. :)

My hair dresser (the wonderful man he is) is trying to help me with this problem and he is now stumped.  We have tried different deep conditionings, changing my shampoo and conditioner...you name it we have prretty much done.  When he trims my hair he is extemely careful and takes about two hours doing it...he is in love with my hair and we both are now at our ropes end with not being able to control my now looking mop that is on my head. :(  Any suggestions???

Have you tried using a bit of jojoba oil on the length?  This would moisturize the dry ends and help tame the hair a bit.  I like to oil my hair at night, then braid and/or sock roll it, giving it my sleep time to absorb the oil and condition it.

Could it also be that the water is very different in Texas than in Nevada?  Meaning softer versus hard water?

I thought the water was part of the reason (it is harder here in miserable Texas)...but i didn't think that my hair would get wavey from water...and its NOT a pretty wavy either.

Bikerbraid...do you shower in the morning after using the oil at night?

I was going to suggest that too.  Last month I travelled to a city just 4 hours away where we stayed for 6 days.  The hotel water was MUCH nicer than the water at home.  It left my hair feeling soft and straigher.  I was using my regular shampoo/conditioner - not the hotel one.  I'm not sure how to solve that problem though, if that's what is causing it.

You could try purchasing a shower water filter, I bought one a few years ago.  It reduces the effects of hard water.  They're not expensive and it's pretty easy to install.
