Title: Hello, I'm new :)
Post by DarenG on Dec 1st, 2006 at 8:19pm
Hi everyone!  I just joined, and thought I'd introduce myself.  My name is Daren, and I don't have long hair, yet.  The reason I joined is rather odd.  You see, I'm a writer.  (yes, yes, I know how unrelated writing and long hair is, but bear with me...)  One of my characters is an asian male, and has long hair.  I cannot describe this character in my novel without a good visual image.  For some reason, I can't visualize this character, so I've been looking for pictures.  I've had no luck.

This search brought me here.  I looked around, didn't see any pictures of what I wanted, and left.  Two days later, I was still thinking about long hair.  I've always had a (secret, half-hidden) desire to have long hair.  Unfortunately, my hair is quite curly.  When it gets to about four or five inches long, it starts to bunch up at the back of my neck.  It just gets bushier and bushier.  Any advice on this?  I'd love to grow my hair out long.

So, yeah, those are the two reasons I joined.  I've looked the forums, and I like what I've seen.  So, can anybody help me with my two-dimensional problem?  Does anyone know where I can find pictures of asian men with long hair, or is there any asian guys here?  Pleasepleaseplease?!

Hi and welcome!

We have other writers here as well.  Sir Rat (aka Rodent) had written a story that features 2 longhaired teenage girls.  He also does the fashion design.  If he pops in here, maybe he can help you out.

I'm afraid I don't have any resources for what you are looking for just now, but I'll see if I can come up with anything.

As for your curly hair (I love curly hair!), sometimes you just need to grit your teeth and get past the awkward length.  Curly hair must be handled differently than straight hair.  First, it is usually drier, so it needs less shampoo and more conditioning.  Many curly longhairs give up shampoo completely and only use conditioners for washing and conditioning.  As it gets longer, adding a light oil such as jojoba oil can help with controlling your curly locks.    Curly hair usually looks best when it is handled less.  Finger combing and wide toothed combs help define the curls and minimize the fluffiness.  Brushing only separates the curls which makes the bushy, fluffy look.

Hang around some more and I'm sure we can help you grow out your locks.  :D

Thanks for the tips!  I think my main problem was that I was brushing my hair, not combing.  It's hard to find info on men's hair, this is the first place I've come across that even adresses it.  I guess most men think long hair isn't 'macho'. ::)  Oh well, that doesn't bother me.  I've always liked long hair.  I once knew a man that had hair past his butt.  Looooooooong, light brown, and straight as could be.  Amazing hair, I wish I had a photo.

Long hair not macho??  Just look at the long hair out on the football field. ;D  If those guys are not macho, I don't know who is!  And what about Samson?

I like long hair on guys.  (I like it on gals too!)  I guess I just like long hair on anyone.   :D

Although most of the posters here are gals, we welcome the guys too and will help in anyway we can.

Sorry i am not sure where to advise you on your search for long haired asian men, however i think the forum has many men but it would simply be there personal choice to reply to you and offer themselfs for photograpic sessions.

Welcome to the forum.

Daren,

Welcome. I have no photo links for you; maybe watch some martial art flicks or peruse the manga section at your local bookstore. Bikerbraid has given you good advice if you decide to go long.

Macho schmacho. Don't even get me started on that crap.

In my opinion, guys who would secretly like to grow long hair don't either for employment reasons, or because the majority of women seem to prefer guys with shorter locks. Personally, I have little interest in attracting the majority. I grew my hair long for me. Who likes it or doesn't has not effected my sleep.

Good luck with the book.

Thanks, I hadn't thought of the Martial arts movies.  Real smart of me... ::)

With my hair already at about the longest it's ever been (4 1/2), maybe in a year or so it'll be the right length.  With y'alls help, I'll be able to get past the awkward part and get to where I want it.  Thanks!

As I recall my awkward phase, I think I wore gel or hats quite a bit. When it gets long enough to tie back into a ponytail, even a small one, you're home free.

Welcome to the group, Sir!  I love having extremely long hair.  The longest it has been was 36"...now about 33 -34" long and blonde. I have lots of pictures of it as well.

Hi Jim!  What I've realized is that, really, [i]any[i] pics of men with long hair will help, just so I can get an idea how it'll hang, how it'll looked pulled back, that sort thing.  If you have any pics you'd like to email me, that'd be fine!  I'd really appreciate anything you can do.

Exactly!  What would a barbarian be without his long flowing locks?! ;)
