Title: How often do scissors touch your hair?
Post by Rainbow on Mar 10th, 2007 at 4:26am
I am very interested to know what other poeple do when they are growing their hair. We have all heard that you shoud trim your hair every 6 weeks, but how often do scissors actually go near your hair?

I am now experimenting to see how long i can go before i need a dust/neaten up the hemline.

Well,it depends on you and your hair.  When you visually inspect the ends to check for split ends, take a look at your hair and pretty much judge if you need to clean it up abit.  Time really has no bearing,it just depends on your hair and when you feel it needs extra TLC and trim it up.  Some people trim every couple of months, some trim bi yearly or yearly.  As long as you keep it healthy, that's the first thing. :)

I get trims every 3 months.  Having a drier hair texture make the ends very fragile.  I'd like to stretch it out farther between trims but I don't think that's realistic.  It will however, take me forever to get long hair-but it will be healthy when it gets there!!!

I have my hubby trim my hair about every 18 months.  I S&D regularly, but as my hair has become more healthy (the damaged hair has slowly been trimmed off), I find I need the dusting less frequently and less is being snipped off.

O goody, a poll, I like polls.  ;D :).I have been trimming every 2 months to remove damage and dusting weekly to prevent more damage.  I have found it sooo relaxing to dust, I have noticed Im doing it more frequently.  I would like to get my hair in such good shape that maybe trimming once a year for hemline straightening, and just doing a dust weekly.  One other thing I have also noticed is my hair is getting thicker on the ends cuz of better care.

Happy hair, happy me!  ;)

I go through the same thing!  I always attempt to give up trimming but it never happens because my hair is fragile and prone to breakage on the ends.  Currently, I'm in an attempt to not do any more trims for the rest of this year although, I probably will dust a few times.

He takes off less than an inch usually.  Currently my hair is in a resting phase, so it is not growing much, so I don't want to lose any more than necessary to trims.  I keep hoping it will start up again soon and that classic is not my terminal length.  >:(

Good afternoon Rainbow, in answer to your question, I actually just take off the split ends.  So I dust hair by hair by small sections at a time.  I sit in my living room window where the lighting is excellent.  If I am real picky that afternoon it could take as much as two hours to do a dust.  But then I wont do anything for  a week.  As far as dusting the length, ummm---I have been doing it every 2 months but I am gonna try and go for 3 next.  So I dusted length (unmeasurable just the tips) March 1, and I am gonna try and wait until June 1.  Depends on how my hair is acting.  If gets icky soon I will dust the length on May 1.  My first dust was probably a haircut 3-4 in.  Hope this helps.

Latest trim I've had was four months ago, but I think my hair would really benefit from being trimmed more often, but lesser.  ::)

Wow!  I was reading thru this again and I saw my first reply.  Sooo much has changed in the way I handle my hair now.  I still s & d twice weekly, altho today there was but about 5 split ends, and I cut off a couple of potentials, but the trimming of my ends has changed.  I trim by the Morrocco Method as an experiment now to see if doing it this way actually speeds up the growth of my hair.  So far, my hair growth rate is about an inch to inch and half monthly.  My hair is sooo healthy I may changing again soon.  Just thought I would do an update here.

Sorry, what is S&D?

I only cut about once a year, I take off a good four inches or so of old stuff.

S&D = seek and destroy. That's basically where you look over the entire length of your hair for split ends and cut them off, regardless of where they are.
