Title: Homemade rose water
Post by Valerie on Aug 10th, 2007 at 11:11pm
I made some homemade rose water the other day by boiling the petals of roses I had that were droopy.  It smells nice, and I have been spritzing my hair with it whenever I remember.  (Nice way to cool down in this heat!)

Anything else that I should add to it?  I was thinking a few drops of oil, and maybe some rose eo for added rosey scent.  How long do you think it will last?  I've got 2 big spray bottles of it.

Essentially what you made was a rose tea.  So it should last about the same length of time that a tea does, which for me is about a week in the refrigerator.  I don't know if the fact that the petals weren't dried will make a difference in the length of freshness or not.

Rose eo is really expensive.  If you decide to get some, look for rose otto, which is steam distilled.  Rose absolute is solvent distilled.  Stay away from rose scented oil or perfume oil, its fake.

I buy my rose water from the health food store.  I use Heritage Foundation brand.
