After damaging my hair for years with permanent dyes and bleaches, I've decided to only put natural, chemical-free things for my hair.  Yesterday, my sister and I bought some Rainbow Henna in Persian Black from a health-food store.  Both of our hair is naturally black, but she's never dyed it in any way shape or form, and me..well u know :-) lol... My hair was brown/darkish brown w/black roots and a few light brown leftover highlights...and I don't think it did anything at all to my hair! It does look slightly, slightly darker but I guess i was expecting it to be nearly all black.  Has anyone ever tried this henna?  It's supposed to be all natural and organic and made specifically for  hair.  When we mixed it with the hot water, it was lumpy and bumpy so we added an egg and some olive oil to make it creamier, but it still looked the same.  And it was very difficult to apply, it would just clump up on the hair and fall out.  There was black stuff EVERYWHERE...on the floor and all over me and it was just horrible.  Did we do something wrong? Please help! :-[

I'm not experienced with henna or the porduct your mention, but I do know that oil will lift color - maybe the oil you added prevented the henna from giving you the color you were expecting?

Well, according to the instructions, egg and olive oil can be added if your hair is dry and also because it helps with the application and rinsing processes.  But thanks!

I use Catherine's henna and indigo.  I think her products are superior and have never been disappointed.  You can go to the Mehandi Shop to get alot of info. and she want she offers.  I think you would be pleased  :)

Indigo only stains the first 15 min.Also you need cold water.
I did like you the first time....After darkening with Indigo I do a henna application the next day.

I have used Rainbow Henna's Dark Brown, it worked nicely for me (I just added some hot water and a tiny amount of vinegar). It is definitely kind of gritty and messy - you will definitely want to put it on _wet_ hair instead of dry. Best thing is to shampoo your hair very well first, because any kind of oils will keep the henna from taking. Also be sure to cover it with a plastic bag and a towel and leave it on for at least an hour. But it should work for you. I have also used Catherine's henna which is definitely easier to use, but I had to stop using hers because the powder was so fine that it made me and my husband sneeze. It was too bad, I really liked it!

The first photo is grainier because it was with our old camera right before it died, sorry I don't have any better shots of my virgin grays (I don't like them so I don't take too many photos of them!) :-)
