Title: Greetings!
Post by classielassie on Dec 20th, 2007 at 1:13am
Greetings!
And Happy Holidays!

My name is Lassie and I'm about to be 32. I'm in the north texas area, so the weather is never the same for more than 5 minutes! But always humid!
I recently stopped dyeing my hair all over. I started going grey when I was 14 and have been coloring it ever since. I only dye the actual grey roots, which are in clumps along my middle part line.  :)
I haven't had super long hair since I was in first grade - I remember my mom braiding it so I wouldn't sit on it, or get it caught in the metal buttons on the desk chairs in school! I had it chopped really short in 2nd grade (gymnastics), 9th grade (trendiness), when I moved to college (again, trendiness) and again right after I got married (drastic change in life = drastic change in hair).
My length generally fluxes between bob and shoulder length, as I hate going to the salon and if I'm going to make the effort and pay that much, I want something to show for it! Until now. I'm growing it out, hopefully to my wasit, if I can wait that long. Its just above my shoulder tops now. No bangs!! But I do have 1 layer left that I'm growing at so it will be all 1 length again.
And I despise using a dryer on it, as well as curling/straightening irons, hot rollers, velcro rollers (ick), regular/rag rollers, and making pin curls! I usually just put it in a ponytail when its long enough.

I've been oiling the ends for a few days and did my first warm olive oil treatment today. Even DH noticed how smooth and shiny it was. He said my hair looked like a L'oreal commercial - tee-hee!
And my hair is so much softer than when I used commercial hot oil tubes on it!

My biggest issue at the moment is that the front strands fall out of french twists and buns pretty quickly. It wiggles out of ponytails fairly fast, too. I need to figure something out to do with it while I wait!

Thankfully (I guess?) I'm not working, so I can get used to not washing it every single day!
And figure out how much time I do spend on it in the mornings when I do wash it, so I'll know how much earlier I'll need to get up when I do go back to work! :P

In addition to my new hair obsession, I knit, I'm trying to learn to spin my own yarn, (while trying to keep the 3 cats out of it); I love to bake, and DH & I are often found at the Renaissance Faire during the spring!

I have found so much useful info on these boards already! I look forward to much more! (and maybe contributing something useful myself!

What part of Texas?  I'm originally from Dallas (Irving actually) myself.  College in Stephenville, first job in San Antonio, grad school in Houston, second job in Conroe (Houston suburb), brief stint overseas, now in third job in Waco.  North Texas, Gulf Coast, and Central Texas.  All that's left now is West Texas, the Valley, and the Panhandle!

Hey, humid weather(south louisiana), cats, and ren faires? Almost sounds like you're describing me, there. :D Welcome aboard, Lassie. May your hair journey go smoothly, and with as few chops as possible!

Thank you everyone! I'm finding so much useful information here!
Angel Spun: hee!

Kiraela: thanks!

Texan.Traveler:
I'm originally from Fort Worth, now in South Denton County. College in Central Texas - most people have never even heard of Mary Hardin Baylor, let alone Belton (not to be confused with Baylor in Waco). My uncle was from West Texas (Childress), and he & my aunt moved back up there about 10 years ago, then she moved back to the metroplex about 3 years ago. Going up there for a visit was an expedition! Thanks to my extra curricular activities through high school, and then most of my major classes in college, I think I've been to every part of the state, I just haven't gotten out of it much!
