Title: What is the worst?
Post by GoddessCurls on Apr 6th, 2008 at 7:36pm
What is the worst length to grow out? I mean what length have you gotten to where it seems to take forever to grow out of. Also what is the most awkward, "I can't do anything with it" stage

I had lots of layers to grow out when I decided to grow my hair long.  I thought I'd be stuck at 19" forever.  I think the worst for me so far has been the just at the shoulders length.

For me, it seems like passing BSL is worse.  After BSL, there aren't really anymore markers like chin, shoulder, bs etc. so you have to rely on measuring more to track progress.  Although, elbows and the curve of the waist are markers.  They're just so far away from bsl that they seem like they'll take forever to get to.

At this point, I'd just like to get to BSL!

It does seem like it takes longest to get past BSL. When it was above my shoulders there really wasn't much I could do with it. I could pull it back to get it out of my face but pieces would break free of the scrunchie and that was annoying.

You'll get there Sakina. :)  If I didn't relax my hair, I wouldn't be at BSL either.

The transition from shoulder length to BSL was most difficult for me. Seemed to take freaking forever! And it did! It took 3 years, for Pete's sake!  :P  But I made it.

The most awkward thing was growing out my bangs and the slanted side pieces that sort of transition from bangs to the rest of the long hair in the back...I don't know what they're called, but they usually just barely cover the ears and all mothers feel the need to give their daughters this wretched haircut. lol But yeah, growing out those 2 things was the most awkward. I'm grateful to have all of my hair at one length now. No bangs, no slanted side things. Just...hair.

I kind of need layers being curly and all. My curls already get weighted down on the top the longer it gets. So the layers help me with that but I have to be careful how I get them, nothing can be too short and I don't want too many. I'm at BSL now I think and I know I have a long road to go. That's when I cut before because it seem to take forever to grow to the next point. Well, I'll just come here now instead, no more cutting.

I'd say growing out a pixie to chin length (all one length) was the hardest.  There is no way to style your hair at some of those stages!  Once I got it all one length, it was smooth sailing.

The other length I have been struggling with is classic.  I reached it OK, but can't get beyond it.  >:(

I don't know what my answer to the first question is going to be.  I can't remember from the other times I've grown my hair out but I'll let you know if I get to such a state.  In fact, I don't think I'll be able to help myself from ranting if it does happen.  I'll surely dispair and be unable to think of much anything else.  I do think a lot about my hair when I'm unhappy with it.

Right now my hair isn't even to the bottom of my short neck and I hate any length above the shoulders.  I begin to feel most comfortable when the back is just below the shoulders and doesn't do that crazy flip out thing at the shoulders.  It's pretty bad right now though.  I still can't believe what got into me.  My hair is really driving me crazy.

I'd hate to be there too. Can you wear it up? or back and out of your face in someway to try and keep your mind off of it. I am so happy to have discovered updo's and hair sticks so that when I get to phases where it is getting on my nerves and can put it all up and not deal with it for a while.

Maybe I just lack imagination, but at this stage I really just can't see how.  It's reached the point where pad dry and shake my head when I get out of the shower and don't look at my hair for the rest of the day.  I'm careful with it, try to treat it well, I just don't have a style but it's pretty heavy on its own so it's not really that messy looking.  See profile pic.  What is there is just there and doing nothing and I don't see that changing for a few months.

Will updos impact on hair growth?  Sorry if this has been covered else where.

I think only in the respect that it protects your hair and ends from damage meaning less breaks and splits and fewer trims which equal more length. For me an added bonus is that I think that if you wear it up for a while you are surprised with length when you finally take it down.
