Title: Can't believe it!
Post by GoddessCurls on Apr 13th, 2008 at 3:06pm
Ok, so I found some chinese food take out chopsticks that I had saved in a drawer (no idea why, can't I can't eat with them to save my life) but I sanded them with a nail file, painted them with some nail polish and figured I'd experiment with them. I started sunday morning beings I don't have to do my hair for work monday, until sometime sunday night. Anyway I'm sure they are not real styles, but I actually got it to stay! I shocked the heck outta me. I have really thick hair that is curly so at this length elaborate stuff is impossible. I did this kind of bun thing and this twisty thing that I think is similar to what you guys call a peacock. Anyway, I got them to stay I have this one one bun-like thing that I have had in for a few hours now. I wonder if it is easier to get the sticks to stay with curly thick hair. Because I couldn't twist the stick going the other way to secure because I have so much hair but I was able to just slide it through the other side and it stays. I am sure I will get better with fancier designs and also having my hair get longer won't hurt but I am just so excited that I actually got it to stay.

Thanks! I had this pretty decent bun going with both chopsticks too and it felt secure. I was also able to put my head back which is often a challenge for me. Like when I have my hair twisted up in a clip and I'm driving I can't lean my head on the head rest because the clip stabs me but with the twist I did with the sticks the sticks were up higher and all that was behind me was hair so I was comfortable. They didn't take a million years to do either, and surprisingly enough they didn't seem to ruin my curls I just had to re-fluff them. That is great because I have to throw it up to eat and I can do that and then take it down when I'm finished. Also now that I am entering that annoying stage of hair growth and the summer is coming I have a feeling this will help out. I can finally break-free of the scrunchi!

I keep a short pair of plastic hairsticks in my purse to throw up the front of my hair in a 1/2 updo to eat and then take 'em out at fluff.  Works great!!

Congrats, GoddessCurls.  :)

It's kind of an epiphany when we realize that we can use hairsticks successfully, isn't it?
I used to practice with pencils until I got it right...and I just ordered my first pair of LongLocks Hairstix this year.

I hope to be getting a pair soon too. My BF owes me a present so I told him when he has some spare dough that I want some of these hair sticks.

So I wore my home made sticks at work yesterday, and today. I got so  many compliments it was incredible. I never wear my hair up so everyone noticed. This guy told me how cute I looked and I asked him if he liked the hair up, he said it was so hot he couldn't stand it!lol It shocked me, I thought "bun...librarian!" that kind of thing so I was pleasantly suprised. I think I found my summer hair style! It'll also help keep it safe so it will grow longer. Also I had two in last night when I went to the gym, I wanted to see how long they could stand up to my arobics class. They lasted for the whole class, until I took it down afterwards!
