Title: Fine curly hair ;(
Post by Lisabelle on Apr 26th, 2008 at 10:21pm
It's hard not for my hair to look stringy sometimes.  I wish it was thicker. Anyone have any idea's on how I can make it look thicker?

Thanks! 8-)

I hear henna can make your hair thicker feeling.  I know there are some shampoos that are supposed to be thickening.  Maybe give one a try?

Perhaps do a acv rinse and see if that stops the stringyness.  Let us know what works for ya!

Ok, so I'm not a curlygirl, but the stringy look is a characteristic of fine hair in general. Good conditioning is the key to combatting it in my experience. Hair has to have enough of a protective coating to prevent strands from rubbing and sticking together as much as possible. Oil works for some people, cones work for others.

Also, keeping your hair well groomed when you wear it down will prevent the stringy sitch. Because fine hair tangles easiest, it has to be detangled often. Wearing your hair in a contained style will prevent you from having to detangle so often if you don't wish to.

As for making fine hair thicker, wouldn't that be nice, eh? But I'm afraid you know as well as I do that there is no real way to do that. You can make your hair look and feel as thick as possible by just taking good care of it. Treating it carefully and "feeding" it properly - again, good conditioning is crucial here.

And did I mention regular trims? They are absolutely essential. I must get them every 3-6 months or my hair becomes a real nuisance to deal with! Ratty ends = ratty hair.

HTH

Thanks Angel  :)  I use to use cones and they worked really nice.  I just worry they will kill my hair?   Ah trims...I haven't had one in three years.....maybe I should muster up the nerve and get one?http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/scared0016.gif  As yes feeding...hmmm maybe the oils are not enough. must look into that.

Cones can be damaging, but there are water soluable cones that are not as bad for your hair.  You can also do regular clarifying washes and/or vinegar rinses to prevent the buildup on your hair.

*Ahem*

As I said, cones work for some people and not others. I encourage experimentation to find out just exactly what your hair likes and doesn't and at what levels. And clarifying is a good idea whether you use cones or not.

You should definitely look into getting a trim, Lisabelle. 3 years is far too long to go without. Especially for fine hair. The trick is finding someone that you can trust (or at least live with) to do it for you.

All the best.  ;)
