Title: My Hair is Stressed!
Post by Pixie on Apr 28th, 2008 at 12:35pm
I am currently in the middle of a three-week long run of a musical at my college. Because my hair is still fairly short (and straight), I wear a curly, platinum blonde wig in the show. The two other girls with wigs have very long hair and can pin-curl it up under the wig. I have no such luck. I have to plaster my hair to my head with hairspray and bobby pin it in place. I then wear a skull cap, and then the wig, which is also pinned into place.
My hair isn't damaged, per say, because of the bobby pins, but the hair spray and hair glue that I have to use to keep the short ends in the back in place are really drying my hair. I am using conditioner, but it doesn't seem to be working as well as I would like it to. Since I still have two more weeks of this left, can anyone suggest a good, fairly inexpensive oil treatment, or anything else that might help save my hair?

    Thanks!

Rather than hairspray, how about trying aloe vera gel?  (Make sure it has no alcohol in it).  I find it keeps wispies and flyaways under control without drying out the hair.

Another trick that I used when I was a synchronized swimmer and had to keep my short hair slicked back and under a cap...... gelatin.  Make sure it is unflavored and no color (unless you want to have color!!!!) Make up a strong batch - use 1/2 to 2/3's the water called for.  As the solution starts to set, comb it thru your hair.  The gel will set and hold.  To remove it, use warm water and shampoo as usual.

Are you using a wig cap under your wig?

Yes, I do have a wig cap. It's not really the wig that is frying my hair, it's keeping all my short little hairs under the wig! I just bought some Dove conditioner and it's really helping. Three more shows!
