I am 47 years old.I have very long asain hair almost to the ground.you can see the pix.I have been keeping long hair for my whole life.I never tried a short style which shorter than my mid back.

The only style of mine is bun with a hairnet.I have to keep my hair up all day.I only release my hair when i am go to bed.Also many friends don't like the style.They think huge bun with a hairnet makes me look like a granny.

Now  I am getting old.and many friends of mine want to see me with a short cut.I am very hard to decide whether to cut it.Long hair is a part of me and it is my trademark.But i will be too old to keep long hair.Can you tell me which choice would be better?

I LOVE your bun!  It is very sophisticated looking.

A decision to cut your hair would obviously be a major decision and one that should not be taken lightly.  As you said - you've had long hair all your life and it is part of who you are.  You should only make the decision to cut it if YOU desire shorter hair.  

Age is really not a factor.  I know many "older" women with long hair.  Personally I find long hair easier to care for than shorter hair.  It does not have to be styled daily, I do not require regular trips to have trims/cuts, I have variety in how I wear it.

If you feel your current length is more than you can handle, you might try trimming it to classic length first.  (Classic is at the bottom of your rear.)  If after several months, you still feel like it needs to be shorter, you might go to tailbone.  Trimming it in this fashion allows you to get the feel for the shorter length without losing a lifetime of length.

I hope this might help you with your decision, but I really hope you chose not to cut it short.

Your pictures are amazing!!!  I agree with Bikerbraid-your bun is gorgeous.

You obviously take good care of your hair-why would you want to cut it?  I vote for leaving it as is.  Its your signature, your personal style.  Your friends will get over the idea of you cutting it.  Maybe they'll get inspired to grow their own hair long!!

I'm not sure if I understood correctly though...do you sleep with your hair out at night?  If that is what you meant, how do you manage that without it getting tangled?  Or without you getting tangled in it? :-? :)  

I also agree with the others.  Your hair is gorgeous  ;D.  Your bun and mine look to be about the same size, but your hair is much longer than mine.  It is good to receive opinions from our friends but the end decision will be yours.

I so love your hair!   It is so beautiful!  I also agree with bikerbraid - if you feel you need to cut it, to go in stages.  The choice is ultimately up to you, and how you feel about it.

I love your hair too!! It is gorgeous, I really hope mine'll be that long someday.

But if you really think cutting it would be good...take small steps! I feel like losing that much hair could be very hard on someone, especially if they've been growing it basically their whole life!!

But that's nonsense about being "to old" to have long hair. Long hair is gorgeous at any age!

Sleeping style is not a problem.I always put my hair into one loose braid.I can put it wherever i want.Because braid won't be tangled. ;)

And if i decided to cut my hair, i would not cut it to short by 2 or 3 times.Because i think if i cut it ,i would not grow it that long again because of the age. So i would like to cut it to very short ,so i can keep the entire braid for memory.What do you think?

Do you really think my bun is ok?Thanks again,and it is also hard to buy a hairnet that can hold all my hair in .Very big net is hard to see. ;D

I think if you are going to cut it, be careful about cutting it that much at once!
I cut 14" off my hair once so that I could donate, and because my hair is so thick, I was very dizzy and lightheaded for a couple of days.
Also, it can be kindof a traumatic shock to cut that much at once.  Make sure you are fully prepared for the emotional reaction you may have - it can be powerful.

The bottom line is - make sure that what you are doing is because YOU want to do it.
It's the only way to make sure you are happy with your decision!

The other ladies have said it already. Don't cut your hair for anyone but you. If you really want to, then I say go for it. But if you'd rather not, don't.

Why don't you find one of those websites where you can submit a picture and try out different hairstyles.  I suspect those urging you to cut haven't really thought about what you would look like.  I predict, if you did cut it, that more than one would say, "It just doesn't seem like it is you."  

But I agree with the ladies here.  If you like it the way it is, keep it that way!

If you decide not to cut it, maybe you could try some different styles to accent your hair.  Maybe a couple of decorative braids could show you're friends that long hair is not a granny style.
