Title: About nine year old girl with v. long hair
Post by callisto on Jul 20th, 2008 at 2:52pm
The other day I saw a girl who couldn't be older than 9 or 10 with a midthigh-knee length BRAID.  Her the braid was about as thick as mine, which means she's probably a iii.  Hair that long and thick on such a young girl...

She's probably never had her hair cut in her life.  Sounds beautiful.

My mom never made me cut my hair, but I hated it. My mom has stick straight hair and is kinda a stickler when it comes to spending money, so the products I should have been using were probably out of the question, and she had no idea what I should use. I was the one who wanted to cut it. Not that it helped any, the cuts I picked weren't meant for curly hair, and as far as I know no salon around here is curly hair aware. Then in jr. high, I got a perm! Yes, you read right! I thought my curls were messy and my mom and I decided that would give them structure. I also found those small packets of henna placenta at the local Kmart, and used them. I haven't seen them around in awhile. The perm, in my mind, made my curls look great! It never got to my shoulders, but I bet if I had straightened it, it would have been darn close. So as you can see I have come a long way in my hair care routine! Now if I could only convince my mom that she can pamper herself and do the same!

It's a lost cause, L&L3.
Our mothers hail from a generation where pampering is absolutely unheard of. Their parents lived through world wars and depressions, so it's all in how they were raised.

The generations that followed them are exactly the opposite. We grew up in a time of unabashed excess, decadence and self-absorption. It's a gap for sure and I don't think there's any bridging it.

Oh, and the henna placenta packs can be found at Walmart, if you dare (I usually don't).  ;)

I don't dare anymore!
I usually pamper my mom. Like today I bought her a buffing block for her nails, then she felt she had to pay me back! *Waves a white flag* I surrender!

Pampering I wish! LOL!!  My mum would comb out my hiar before school ripping my hair as she went! Ouch!  My hair was tailbone length you know I cried!  She would make two very tight braids.  Some days it was just pony tails.  and to think..I did not have any conditiner in those days...shutters... :-X   I eventualy got is all cut bob short and cried and cried. Wow that was over 30 years ago!! ::)

THis idea of a bob digusts me! Ugh! Sad that you had to get it cut that short.

I wish I had taken better care of my hair as a kid, or at least brushed it every once in a while. I didn't brush my hair until I was 10!!(although oddly enough in pictures it often looks perfectly fine...)

That little girl better treasure what she's got! ;D
